Yes, he will start for 2 years just like Myles.

Can’t spare Nuss’ feelings. Gotta do what’s best for the program, and that’s to field the best possible team in cfb.

What is this board's deal with Nuss? At this time a year ago, everyone--the fanbase, the coaching staff, college football media generally, etc.--were (rightfully) incredibly high on Nuss. A fairly decent chunk of the fanbase was calling for him to start over Daniels (which, notwithstanding the fact that Daniels went supernova, I maintain was not that crazy at the time; massive credit to JD5 because he made a Burrow-level jump and deserves everything he's gotten and everything coming to him), and I saw at least one of the smartest CFB guys i know (Bud Elliot) suggest that LSU may have had the two best QBs in the conference entering the year. That is, not just the best pairing of starter and backup, but literally the best QB in the conference and the second best QB in the conference.

From that point until now, Nuss hasn't had any chance to change anyone's mind. And yet now, for some reason, the prevailing opinion on this board--which also seems to be growing in the fanbase as a whole--is now that Nuss doesn't have it and should be shown the door.

Like... Could someone please explain why in the world we'd take Maalik Murphy over Nuss?

Murphy has seen real, competitive game action in meaningful games twice to Nuss's once. Murphy played against a solid-but-unspectacular Kansas State team and a very bad BYU team. 62 total passes for 418yds (6.7yds/att) with 3TD and 3INT. One "rushing attempt" for -18yds. By contrast, Nuss's only real live meaningful competitive game action came against an all-time great UGA defense. He threw for 294yds on 10.9yds/att with 2TD/1INT--in a single half. The highest yardage total UGA allowed to any QB not named CJ Stroud all season, and Nuss did it in one half. Highest yds/att mark UGA allowed all season. If you think there's still uncertainty then that's fine, but those are his only meaningful snaps, and it's not like Murphy has done anything more. That's not to mention that Nuss already has multiple years with Sloan and Denbrock, whereas Murphy would be newly acclimating. I just don't get it. Even if you're uncertain about Nuss, in what universe does Maalik Murphy solve that issue?

And before anyone says "oh it's just about bringing in someone to compete for the job": that's simply not how this works. For one thing: The whole reason Murphy is transferring in the first place is because he wants to start. For two: Anyone who thinks that Nuss is going to stick around just for a chance to "compete for the job" is out of their mind. PLENTY of programs would gladly take him as the starter, and pay him good money for it too. Why wouldn't he leave in that case? Anyone who wants to make it out like it's a lack of competitive drive or something stupid like that is either 65yrs old or a clown. It's a business decision. Like it or not, these kids have to look out for their best financial interests just like you and me.

What that means is: We're not taking a QB transfer unless that guy is a slam-dunk star or a full-on backup. If he's not, the staff isn't going to push out the guy they're comfortable with, the guy they spent all last offseason lavishing with high-level praise.

Which brings me to my final point: Some of the guys I've seen people advocating for us to take are just absolutely mindboggling. Taylen Green from Boise? Did you guys ever actually watch that guy? If you are concerned about Nuss's tendency to get loose with his decisionmaking, holy fricking shite why would you take Taylen Green?! That guy is the all-time YOLO king. And by the way he hasn't actually been good - he couldn't even hold down the job full-time at Boise. 1752 passing yards in 13g, and 11TD to 9INT. And he wasn't quite Lamar Jackson with his legs, either - averaged 34 rushing yards per game this year. I'd take him as a backup, but to tell a guy like that he's in consideration to start? Come on, man.

Stop reading right that this point.

You are married to the idea of Nuss being the starter next year without adding any competition to the pool.

That’s where it gets tricky for the coaches is finding someone solid but also someone who is ok with maybe being a backup at the end of the day

I’ve said this before and will keep hammering on it- getting a good G5 QB with experience in the right kind of system may be the way to go here. Someone looking for a path upward may be more willing to compete for a job and be a backup in year one here. Most of the P5 guys in the portal want a job basically handed to them before they commit and we aren’t offering that.

When I said months ago that if CBK sees a running QB in the portal, he’d bring him in and Nuss would be QB2 again ….. I got shouted down.

But Murphy isn’t a running qb. I think people just see black QB and automatically think he’s a running qb.

Now look. Every day, another thread about some QB we need to bring in.

CBK likes having a running QB. And after JD5 ….. Nuss should be very worried.

So you think Kelly is portaling a QB to replace Nuss because people are starting random threads on TD?

My best guess is that they think a transfer will automatically be the next Heisman winner. Or that we need a dual threat to win and can't function without one.

Yea, always find this one interesting. Only 1 of 4 teams in the playoffs have a dual-threat QB.
