88.00 3-star. I was honestly expecting an 89.00, but still happy to have him.

I feel like he's going to outplay that ranking. Showed solid film at OSU.

Oh no 1.0 off your wanted rating. Dudes legit.

If he isn't injured and out for the year, that would be a big plus.

We definitely need help. BK isn't spending a precious scholarship on someone who can't benefit LSU.

Just needs to be healthy and ready to roll.

The injury is why he isn't a 4-star

Im a huge BK fan but this statement is absurd. We just did this with transfers this year.

Y’all need to temper expectations here. He is who he is, and that’s not necessarily who you want him to be.

Can he help us... yes or no ??
I bet yes...

Matthew Brune's take:
quote:
Brown is a welcome addition to the cornerback room, but I don’t view him in the same lens I viewed Denver Harris, Mekhi Garner, Jarrick Bernard-Converse, or Zy Alexander. For one, the size is not comparable to any of the names I mention, but two, the lack of playing time at Ohio State means you’re taking a massive shot in the dark that he can play at the SEC level. After a year where the cornerback position was attacked, adding a sub 6-foot corner with little tape is not the route I was expecting. This was not a can’t-miss prospect out of high school. He got to Ohio State and got passed up by incoming freshmen as a sophomore and was unable to get any run. If not for injuries, he likely hardly plays as a freshman too.
Perhaps the hope is that he can compete in the Nickel spot in 2024, but nowadays we see how slot receivers are used and I don’t love that matchup.
I understand cornerback is a position of need, but with LSU pressed against the 85-man cap, it surprises me the staff is willing to take this big of a chance on Brown with how many needs are still on this defense. Ashton Stamps, Javien Toviano, Sage Ryan, JK Johnson, and Jeremiah Hughes isn’t an ideal cornerback room, but I’m not sure what Brown provides to that group that can elevate them in 2023.

Had to look up Matthew Brune...apparently works for On3 as a recruiting guy. I have no idea if J Brown will be a significant contributor or not. But I learned one thing... look up an "analyst" before wasting even several seconds on reading his opinion. Thanks, but until proven otherwise, I'll take LSU coaches assessment of J Brown over yet another recruiting hack. BTW, he contradicts himself badly on his own assessment. He says "a welcome addition to the cornerback room" and then says NOT ONE SINGLE GOOD THING about him...NOT ONE!" What a hypocritical a-hole!
