Legit question and yes he’s tall for a guard. Before this year he had very little coaching. In junior high they played him as a DT. So he’s really just learning OL techniques and schemes. He did play a lot of RT in Mandeville’s wildcat last Friday against Barbe. I would expect him to move outside at some point.

Agree with everything else you wrote.

I saw the little fellow play against Barbe last Friday. Mandeville had a great game plan. Good luck.
Thanks. We parents were taken totally off guard. Even with Zahn Diaz hurt they stuck with it and it paid off.

Barbe’s stadium is enormous and was very nice. Why was attendance so low? I know duck season opened there last weekend but those big stands made it look practically empty.

At 6'8 345 he's got prototypical size for an OT. If he has had limited coaching, I'd get him in camps so he can start learning technique and get his name out there. He's a JR correct? When coaches see his size they'll want to work him out I suspect.

That is a very good question and one that deserves an answer but I am not sure that I know it. I will say that duck hunting has no bearing on the attendance. There are too few ducks in the marsh.

It is a very nice stadium. I recall being at its inaugural game which resulted in a brawl with John Kennedy HS of New Orleans. It got national attention and many funny jokes from the Tiger Rant.

In the 2002 season Barbe soundly beat Mandeville in Mandeville. Hokie Gajan said on his radio show that Barbe was the most talented team that the Skippers have ever played. The next week Barbe was scheduled to play West Monroe in Lake Charles. Due to the number of of fans on both sides the game was played an McNeese Cowboy Stadium. The halftime score was 0-0 and WM won a close one.

Last season Barbe once again won the Class 5A State Championship in baseball. Many of the football coaches have been around for a very long time. A 7-3 season has become acceptable for football. There are similarities and differences with the results with the two programs over a long period of time. The stadium for baseball is a very nice facility and it does not look empty at home games.

Jesus! At that size he should give Guillory all he can handle. Best of luck to him! Tell him to stay low but that is awfully hard to do for a kid that is 6'8! Guillory is strong as an ox!

Indeed. He knows he needs to stay low.

My son squats and dead lifts 500 lbs+ but has a LOT more distance to cover with his long arms and legs. LOL

I know it will be tough to do against a squatty player like Guillory but tell your son to get as low as possible and use his weight to his advantage. He should absolutely be a RT I stead of interior OL. Get him to some camps and instruction for technique with his footwork and hand placement. Not many kids have that kind of size, with a little coaching you may have yourself a damn fine player. Beat of luck to him this weekend!

Agreed, and I hope he moves outside next year. They won't switch up the line at this late stage of the season.

Last summer he did the two LSU open OL camps, a South Alabama camp, and the Nicholls line camp with the whole unit. I'm sure he'll have a busy camp schedule next year.

I think Dragna has done a good job this year, and clearly gives my son a lot of attention. Gonzalez didn't have a full time OL coach last year. That and Gonzalez having a full off season program for the first time, adding film study, yoga, and weights, have made a big difference.

Thanks!

If that was my son, then I'd tell him that this is his opportunity to get his name out there and start getting some big time offers. No doubt that if he handles his business against Guillory, then college coaches will seriously take notice. Having said that, I'd be willing to bet that you, his coaches, and his teammates have already told him that.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. I have seen Guillory enough to see that he sometimes is not as explosive as others. I hear this had turned around since the WM game this year.....but if he can handle a motivated going balls to the wall Guillory....then we should offer him immediately. Guillory is other worldly when he turns the switch on.

Guillory squats like 700lbs or something close. All your son can do is his best, but no shame in getting beat by a guy like that.

Have him wear one sock inside out and eat a Carmel Apple sucker before the game and he’ll be fine.
