quote:But this is the reason why I think the kid is so hesitant about coming to LSU. He wants to go to a school that will continue his development and not derail it. You can tell that this is of utmost importance to him and why TCU continues to lead. Miles has damaged the reputation of LSU so much making it seem as if the school is capable of only having running based type offenses that these type of QB's don't wanna go there. I'm surprised Miles Brennan was so willing, but Rogers is a much better passer than Brandon Harris, I agree. But right now even with Canada there he is still really shaky about deciding to go there thinking that he won't get developed and that's not fair to Canada. Canada isn't Les Miles, but that scrimmage looked awful and only made Rogers look forward to going to TCU even more. I hope they can swing it, but it's going to be tough.
If he had sucked or he didn't do any of the things I saw I would surely tell you he isn't worth our time. I think he is definitely worth our time.

When did taunting become thuggish? Was Larry Bird a thug? Was Christian laetner a thug?

I agree with you here. Until we can prove that we can run a competent offense we can expect recruits to have this same line of thinking.
But to be fair, I didn't expect the offense to look good in the spring game after what? 15 practices? People who expected to see any different had some unrealistic expectations.

Nice report, thx. Marshall will come to LSU IF the OFF does well this fall...plain and simple IMO. If Canada, and the players, have some consistent success in the passing game....he'll be at LSU.
I know it is a trite saying, 'how important it is for the OFF to play well' this season....but for recruiting it is probably more vital than any time in the last 5 yrs. Show the recruits the new system, new standard of how LSU wants to play OFF!
Set the Pace Tigers!

Those two dominated this scrimmage, quite literally. They are going to light teams up this year that isn't named Evangel or Landry Walker
West Monroe?

Do you know if WM and Parkway will scrimmage again this year in August?
Posted on 5/13/17 at 11:12 am to TigerScratch
Sounds like Rogers has been schooled to stay away from LSU by part of the Parkway community. My guess is its Harris apologists and Feaster (possibly redundant).
sounds like its an uphill climb.

To back up the OP, I was impressed by Rogers but marshall may be the best receiver I've ever seen in hs. He is WAY better this year than last year. He is much stronger as I saw him run through tackles and get physical as a blocker. We MUST get Terrace and both would be great.

everyone knew Canada wasn't gonna open the offense up in the spring game the same goes for aranda they showed nothing from both sides wait until byu...and I had a byu alum talking out of his arse today about LSU took all I had not to laugh in his face

Bird wanted to crush your spirit, just like Jordan. Neither was a thug. Laettner was an irritating bitch but not a thug. The 90s Knicks were straight thugs. The 70s and 80s Raiders were thugs (with plenty of white players). I understood exactly what the OP was getting at.

yeah, just let him talk, when LSU opens up the can of proverbial whoop arse on them, you won't find him. lol LSU's defense alone with the way Aranda has them playing is enough to shut anyone up. They were on a scary level in that last game against Louisville. Louisville scored in bunches on teams last year and LSU destroyed them, having reached another level in Aranda's scheme. They'll start off slow this season as all teams do, but with the talent that they have and the incoming talent that will be added to that, it will be really scary when it comes together. On offense, of course they are not showing much, but you just wanted that scrimmage to go a lil better, but it didn't happen. With the talent that LSU keeps every season on both offense and defense, when Canada does open it up, well, it will be scary also to think that the offense could do what the defense is doing.

Thanks so much for the info about two highly recruited players in LA.
This is one of the best recruiting threads I have read in a while, with mostly good input and a minimum of personal attacks. This board needs more of this.

Your comment here is what caught me off guard at the scrimmage. I had seen Rogers play twice before, but his progression as a quarterback is startling to see. He was dominant last night. I can't overstate that. He was coached up big-time. Looked like a truly big-time prospect who is not an athlete playing quarterback and this guy looked better than Harris every did in High Schoool (as I said before I never was impressed with harris as I saw him against Byrd and Acadiana). I was vocal about not signing that kid.
Rogers has taken the time to get better as a qb--which is fairly obvious; he won't allow himself to stall out or become stale. If he commits to TCU in a couple of weeks then the job will be on Canada and Orgeron to show him differently on the field during the season to switch his commitment.
The poster that commented on Marshall being physical: ditto... That was fairly amazing to watch. He fell in the rankings after last season was finished mainly because of what JJ27 mentioned. He was soft. He improved. Players who want to get better by learning is a player I want on my squad. I was caught off guard the entire scrimmage at how dominant those two were. Marshall will start day 1 wherever he goes. That is an established fact. Any guy who can catch short passes and make the defender miss while also outrunning the defense to the end-zone; a guy who is physical at the line and break man coverage to then separate from the defender down field on a go route; and lastly take a screen, hit the seam, and out-run the entire defense like a scat-back is going to be dominant and start immediately.
I've seen a lot of ball over the years and I'd be hard-pressed to say I've seen such a dynamic duo outside Mackey and Randle out at Bastrop years ago and Berlin and Bachman in 99' specific to the passing game. I did see Lufkin years ago with Dez Bryant: now that was something to behold also.

West Monroe?
I'd love to say, "yes, West Monroe too", but that isn't West Monroe's strength and I bet you know that. West Monroe's weakness is against the pass as showcased last year against St. Amant in the 3rd and 4th quarters and against Landry Walker in the Dome.
If this was a running team I'd be quick to say West Monroe. I know for certain that both Landry Walker and Evangel can shut them down as they did last year. They proved it on the field and have the players to do it again this year.
From what I've ascertained from some Rebel faithful it seems a few coaches don't think WM is going to be strong in the defensive backfield unless they develop some studs in the summer. It will be another weakness like most years. They also lost a starter last year to another surrounding school. I thought it was Ouachita at the time, but it turned out to be Bastrop as JJ mentioned.
But, Parkway wouldn't beat West Monroe. Don't think I insinuated that whatsoever. Ouachita moved the ball, but Ouachita has zero playmakers and was extremely undisciplined. Just incredible how undisciplined they were. West Monroe would have scored a lot of points last night.

Wasn't that type taunting. It was obnoxious and Larry Bird was a living legend while these kids are legends in their own mind. Their taunting was directed at Marshall and Rogers. The two unsportsmanlike incidents were dirty as freak. One of the Parkway defenders became enraged and yanked his helmet off his head and directed his coach towards his eye-balls to insinuate he was getting his eyes yoked on. The other unsportsmanlike was a Ouachita lineman who wouldn't let his man off the ground and started hitting him while on the ground.
Too much jawing from a group that is so sorry. Tasteless and fruitless. All they did was get their opponents motivated and they beat the shite out of them afterwards in the most humiliating fashion.

They won't make the playoffs this year.

Pineville and Natch Central will be 2.
That is no longer a guaranteed victory after what I saw last night.
Pineville with Dennis Dunn and Ronnie Alexander will beat this Ouachita team. They will have them competitive quickly. Football is a coaches sport mainly and Ouachita has very little of that.
Pineville fielded an admirable defense last year already and was relatively young. Their offense will take some time, but Alexander will have the defense banging early. They will overachieve and Ouachita from what I saw last night has no offensive threat that can take it the distance like Warren last year. Roberts will be a very good back for them, but he is it. Their receivers are slow and get zero separation.
I'll give you Natchitoches Central.
Neville, West Monroe, Ruston, Alexandria, Sulphur, Carencro all losses. Plus they have their starting defensive tackle out for the year it seemed as he was in a knee brace and on crutches. Their other defensive end was in a boot and didn't play. The backups are just as good as these two as I saw them play last year so it didn't skew the scrimmage results, that I can guarantee you.
They play Plaquemine also who has Nelson Jenkins and returns a lot of talent. They may lose to them too. I could see 3-7 or 2-8 next year for Ouachita without question.
They are that bad brother. They have a lot of work to do out there in 3 months.
