agree to disagree... I'd be in contact with the coach, asking about spring and fall practice schedules etc.

I'm not saying that you don't contact the school at all...just saying that it might also be prudent to do some of your own research, as well.

whats he waiting on to expose them?

and what are the coaches motives for doing this?

Someone from a major program is err.... taking care of said coach in more ways than one. Benjamin handshakes goes both ways.

All of your points are valid, but you are missing the point. It doesn't matter if you can find ways to circumvent the high school, the high school coach is a scumbag period and there should consequences to this type of behavior.

I coached high school basketball at one time, and I would have been upset if colleges wouldn't have given me the courtesy of talking with me. Letters to high school coaches are part of tradition because the assumption is that high school coaches know the kids best and will look out for their best interest. I once didn't give a letter to a kid, but that was after I called his dad and we agreed that he had to work on some off field things before he could get his college letters. This guy is scum of the earth, period.

Lots of coaches at colleges have no idea how to contact a player without going through their school.

I promise you Miles and Saban know how to contact a player they want. It is called hard work and people think success falls in your lap when success really is a result of effort and hard work

These kids aren't 5 elite recruits. They're under the radar types that Jimmy thinks should be getting more attention. Colleges are beginning the process of evaluating the player. The first step is to contact the high school & coach. Colleges are wading through thousands of hours of tape & hundreds of recruits. It definitely helps the recruit if his high school coach cooperates a little.

I suppose you could do a better job? He's human and makes mistakes like all of us. I like Jimmy and think he does a good job.

The point is if u just sit back and "assume" the kid is getting everything when there is a middle man...that is lazy. U know the old saying "when u assume, u make an arse out of u and me." Miles, Saban, Orgeron, Frank Wilson etc. don't assume.

I am not reading this entire thread but I believe if a coach withholds letters from a kid that coach should be fired!

If I was a principal of a school I would let it be known that if any coaches withheld this sort of thing from a kid they would be fired!

It just isn't there place to be making those type of decisions for someone else!
