That's not it. You'd have to sell one of them on coming off the bench when there's a 100% chance he has comparable offers that come with a starting role.

You don’t have to sell them on anything. Show up and best player wins.

You don't know how much other schools are offering in terms of money but if they're offering a starting spot along with it they'd have the leg up.

That's wishful thinking. I don't think you're looking at the big picture here. This Jefferson rumor likely doesn't have legs. I'd be shocked if it did at this point.

An update from Iowa states 247 insider Alec busse earlier today on the Jefferson situation:

quote:

Joshua Jefferson update 1:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon: I have been able to connect with a person close to the LSU program, who informed me that LSU's approach is to keep things "hush hush" at this time of the year. In talking with this source, it does sound like LSU would be interested in adding additional players to its frontcourt. Tiger coach Matt McMahon landed Omaha transfer Marquel Sutton on Sunday morning and they have previously earned a commitment from Mississippi State transfer Michael Nwoko. Ultimately, LSU has "been in on a couple of different guys" throughout the process, but it doesn't sound like they are done in the transfer portal just yet. The Tigers do return Jalen Reed and Rob Miller in the paint as well.

From what I am being told, LSU's roster-building priority could shift more toward finding shooting and floor spacing around UNLV transfer guard Dedan Thomas. Wings were also mentioned as a potential searching point for LSU in the transfer portal.

Obviously, if a player like Jefferson enters the transfer portal, he becomes highly coveted by more than one school. He is a highly talented, skilled and productive player, and that is why Iowa State's power players have worked hard to organize a plan for him to return to the Cyclones. As of earlier today, people in Iowa State circles were expressing increased confidence that it was possible. However, they did remind me that nothing is final until the portal closes on April 22.

I have defended McMahon situation more than I’ve defended McMahon personally. He’s not a great coach yet but he’s not a bad coach either.

There’s nothing he’s done here to show that he isn’t a “bad coach”. None of his teams have played above their talent level, players he identified at the HS and college levels have not significantly elevated their game under him and he hasn’t built any sort of identity for the program to build on. At least doing one of those things well could make you an average coach, but here we are. The situation sucked in year one, but he didn’t improve the state of the program by year 3 with the threat of sanctions long behind us.

Competing with any team is irrelevant, we ended the year as one of the worst P5 schools in the country. That’s not something that you sit here and wait and see if he can turn it around. As for the “inexperienced” part, get used to it. Our inexperienced players were here for a year and left, you are getting a bunch more inexperience next year. Cant be an excuse when every other team in the country is doing the same thing.

People can rightfully criticize him until he proves otherwise. That’s what making millions of dollars to coach a sport gets you. I like his portal additions to this point, but I still have little faith that the talent will be maximized. If LSU wants to take basketball serious, they need a line in the sand on a legitimately successful year or you get a new guy. A first round exit in the tournament with a $8m roster shouldn’t be accepted. We will see next year how serious LSU is and if McMohan has any competency at this level.

Interesting to read this. So far he has got a noticeable step up in talent in the portal. Anyone who thinks this is the same as the past few years is delusional. Whether he wins with these guys or not is another story. There's no excuse for him to disappoint. This team will have talent. They gave him a much bigger checkbook to work with.

We need defenders, but maybe CMM thinks that is easier to teach. We just lost our best defender.

This isn't true if they make a NBA roster. They still have their Nil deals after college. You can watch players explaining it on YouTube. The best way to explain it the player has nil deal not the school

I'm not sure what's worse - McMahon's coaching abilities or your ability to properly form paragraphs.

This is huge otherwise our ceiling is a 2003 or 2005 Brady one and done squad.

3 mil is nuts. Even 2.1 is crazy.

According to On3, only the top five players in the portal are commanding around 2 million. The top player is 2.3 million. IF this is true, then either LSU is grossly overpaying or On3’s valuation is WAY off.

Personally, I have a hard time believing anyone would pay 3 million for anyone that isn’t a sure thing
