Saban was easily the best.

He took a doormat football program coming off of 4-7 and 3-8 seasons and made then an elite national championship caliber program with 4 years. We won our first national championship in 45 years in football. What he did was unthinkable.

Brad Davis can’t and never will be able to hold Nick Saban’s jock.

Have you paid attention to the portal this cycle. We're doing damn good . We were ranked high in portal class rankings and that was before the last two studs we pulled. I haven't seen the ranking updated since then

Yep. But that’s when Lipseys checks could buy Skenes and Tanks. They haven’t been able to do it the last couple cycles for the elite guys.

Looks like Jay did something yesterday no other LSU baseball coach has ever done.

Sure if we are talking about Skip Bertman, but manieri couldn’t do what Jay has done

You do realize that a good bit of the HS kids that your giving Jay credit for, most of them had already committed to Manieri (Nolan Cain really should be the one who deserves a lot of the credit)
I’m not trying to downplay what Jay has done or say that he can’t recruit or anything; I just want you to realize how ridiculously dumb it is for you to say that Manieri couldn’t do this…

Taking Lipsey’s checkbook and buying turnkey players out of the Portal

Aka “RECRUITING

Some people really need to come to terms with the landscape of college sports nowadays. The portal and NiL have completely changed the game.

How many great high school players has Jay evaluated and developed at LSU? That will be his real measure.
Gone are the days of coaches being evaluated on their “development” skills… if a kid needs to be “developed” then he can do so at one of our farm clubs and we’ll call him up in a year or 2 when he’s ready. College baseball, especially SEC baseball, is not that different than the league anymore, just smaller paychecks…

Schmidt? I'd argue LSU was the allure and Jay just so happened to be the coach and benefactor.

Not often has there been a Catholic High kid willing to turn down money he likely will never make again because he grew up loving and wanting to play for LSU Baseball. That's the power of the program, not the coach.

Also notable that Jay doesn't coach Pitchers and LSU has had a revolving door when it comes to the pitching coach. So I'd chalk this one up to the LSU Baseball brand over the course of Schmidt's life, and not as much a coach.

Ok, so what about the other 2 high profile HS recruits in Curiel and Arrambide? With the potential for more to get to LSU.

There is no point in engaging. He's intellectually dishonest.

He's low IQ and argues in bad faith.

Neither of those guys were projected R1 players

Basically, if you're going to be a R4 guy then you have the same decision that many LSU recruits over the last decade have had, and LSU has gotten its share of those kids no matter who the coach was.

Ummm… you do realize the kid was originally committed to state and Jay flipped him to LSU, right?

I can't speak to the exact chronology of his recruitment but the kid was not a huge prospect until he hit a major growth spurt which was around the time LSU was in transition with its coaches.

It has been widely said and known that he grew up an LSU fan and loves the program and wanted to play at LSU, which is even more obvious now that he has made a decision to bypass money he likely will never see again to come to school.

So you really think LSU wasn’t interested in him until after his “growth spurt”? That's probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen anyone tell themselves… Do you think he “decommitted” from Miss St. just so he could come to LSU? Like as soon as he got an offer from LSU or something?… He was really interested in A&M and [straight from the kids mouth] has said that he didn’t choose LSU until after meeting Jay… he actually said that he liked Jay so much that he made up his mind to come here during one of his visits/conversations with Jay…

His interview with Theriot and Moscona isn’t hard to find.

He says he barely made the team as a freshman at Catholic. Says playing at LSU is a dream come true. Called himself an LSU super fan. Attended games since he was 6.

Committed to State beginning of 2022 and he didn’t really start to rise as a prospect until 2023 which he admits. Jay was hired in 2021…if Schmidt loves Jay so much and Jay is such an elite recruiter then why did he commit elsewhere at first?

Probably makes sense that Jay didn’t ramp up his recruitment of him until he took his game to another level after he was already a State commitment.

A&M would make sense with the Cain connection.
