This may be a dumb question but why is Cook rated so low nationally? Is he super underrated? Size? Everything I’ve heard about this guy is that he’s a stud instant impact player.

Go see him tonight in person and make your own judgement. He is a true PG that can take over when needed.

Kid is a stud and will be a good one at LSU.

I will be there tonight watching him go up against Scotlandville and Beakman.

The knock is size but I dont get it either. He is actually built pretty well for a 6 footer and is having a GIGANTIC season. Was player of the year in LA last year over Beekman too. Owned Beekman heads up in their game last season, play tonight against one another again.

Hard to find full stats on him anywhere, but last year for gatorade player of the year Cook

Averaged 30ppg, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and had almost 2300 career points, he's over 3000 now with this season.

It’s gotta be size because everything else about this kid screams a dominant scoring pg that could lead our team in scoring. I’m stoked for this upcoming class and I feel like Wade has a few more things up his sleeve.

Can only be size. And what did he do in AAU this summer.

There are dozens and dozens of very talented PG and Shooting guards.

So I do not know if the ranking matters. Probably little respect nationally for Louisiana Basketball also.

What can he do for LSU?

I expect he will do very well as a PG.

I’m just wondering if he can really shoot

And not the way people thought Javonte could shoot coming out

I have been around Jalen since he was seven years old. You will not find a harder worker to perfect his craft. Sweet and humble young man who wants to win. I think his rating is because of height. This kid is an athlete and will excel at LSU

From 247:

quote:

Powerfully built and an explosive athlete who loves contact. Also a top football prospect. Loves to attack the basket. Can find teammates while playing downhill. Also is a quality long distance shooter who can fill it up off the dribble. Excellent defender with his quickness, strength and intensity.

In his highlights they show a lot of long range 2s off the dribble and several threes. What stands out most IMO his his strength and control penetrating the lane.

I have seen him play in person three times over the last two years. I think he is rated right where he should be. That's not a knock on him at all. I have seen him dominate a game while scoring 30 plus and I have seen him look average while "only" scoring 16 points.

No doubt by the time he leaves, he is going to be a great player at LSU. But the fact of the matter is, he is going to be a four year player at LSU. Its going to take him a couple of years to develop, but by the times he leaves I think he will be a solid starter at LSU. I just don't ever see him being an all-conference type of player.

He is not shy of contact. Will pound lanes and not back down at all. He is a D1 cornerback or receiver also

Javonte shot 42% from 3 in high school. Now, his form isn’t good, but he was making them.

Once again, not trying to knock the kid. I actually really really like him and think he is going to be great fit next to Cam Thomas next year.

But... I never came away from one of the games I watched thinking he was a great shooter. I think he is going to struggle to shoot well at the next level when longer guards are guarding him.

I went saw him against Catholic and he is phenomenal. Listed at 6ft but probably 5’10. Will tear it up at the next level.

He fits today’s game well. Strong on the drive, quick first step. Not a lights out shooter, but very capable of driving strong to the rim and finishing while drawing a foul.
