I like this kid. Notice how much gratitude he expresses. He sounds like a young man who will not squander this opportunity or take it for granted.

Dude, I think you’re missing my point. I think it’s a perfectly good statement to make about a young man. Just know the prevailing sentiment that typically raises its head here.

I mentioned it about another kid over the weekend and got “the look”. Again, nothing intended but a pure compliment.

The young man did fine. Keep in mind that most people, regardless of age, become a bit nervous when they are on camera.

I can find 1,000 examples of people saying this about a black kid. It would be hard to find a single example of someone saying this about a white kid. THAT's why people say it's racist. It's not because the people saying it don't like black people; it's because they take it for granted when a white kid is well spoken and comment on it when a black kid is well spoken.
