Since Shea is apparently predicting Florida OLB/Edge Pyburn to LSU, I read this USA Today article about his excessive demands that Florida rejected:
quote:

Pyburn demanded a $45,000 monthly stipend, a guaranteed starting position as an outside linebacker, an assurance of playing on third downs and increased snaps in the rotation. The Gators declined these requests by Pyburn which resulted in his entry into the transfer portal

Even if true, are these demands excessive? $540,000 for a starting caliber edge rusher who is "one of the primary pillars of the Gators’ defense" seems reasonable after watching Jakeem Stewart get $2 million for playing in all of 10 high school games. And was he not already going to be the starter? And why would they not play him on 3rd downs? What am I missing here, other than sour grapes?

Those demands aren’t really bad! Pretty cheap for a starting DE in the SEC.

If a starting TE is getting 700k?!?!? ( not our TE) Why not?

Why?

The dude is legit and we aren’t spending our money on him. If LSU wants him then I’m all for it.

Don’t we hate the guys that leave LSU because of stuff like this? Or is this one different because he’s thinking about coming to LSU?

It's stupid to guarantee ANYONE a starting position. Guarantee him a fair chance to earn a starting position, more third downs and a spot in the rotation, sure. If he's the best, he'll get it, great for him, great for us. ut guarantee, hell no!

I don’t follow Florida football so I don’t have much info on him, but looking him up he had 60 tackles, 1 sack and a FF last year. Is that something LSU is heavily after? Seems pretty pedestrian.

Does any of this sound like the kind of thing Kelly would agree to? If he ends up at LSU, that would suggest to me that this story is fake or at least overblown. Any player they get in the portal is a mercenary, so unfortunately it’s a necessary evil in today’s game.

Dude would be an instant starter for LSU

Like him a lot more than Butler

Pyburn would help bring toughness and shore up the run defense from the front 7

Hopefully Peoples can work his magic on his pass rush ability

The only issue here is that it is all sensationalism by whoever wrote the tweet. It may have been relayed that way by whomever was giving the information, but whatever it was, it was meant to come off as Pyburn demanding something and being difficult, likely by someone that is disgruntled. When I read it at first, I was like "F that guy!" Then I thought about it. If he's that good, that is all a bargain.

If true, people had issues with the playing time demands.

Guaranteed to play on third down?

You can’t take situational decision making away from coaches.

You cannot guarantee anything. Mainly because you never know when the lightbulb is going to turn on for others.

However, if BK wants to take that risk….knock yourself out. But I could never do it.
