What? I clearly answered I think it's ludicrous to say we finish top 5. So no I don't think we do and I'd wager a lot of money on that. And I laughed at his original assumption that we will be a top 5 team next year.

Depending on who returns next season and what happens with the staff I think it's very possible. In 2018 we were expected to be near the bottom of the Top 25 or unranked by most pre-season predictions and finished #6. That 2018 team was returning less production than nearly all CFB teams that year. 2020 eclipsed that with a team that after opt outs was at or near dead last in CFB in returning production. That reverses in 2021.

Nope. You didn't, but your response still makes it clear what you really think. You think LSU COULD be top five (not confident enough to say they won't) but elected to laugh when it was posted here for some odd reason.

I guess this is where I

Fair counter.

But Burrow, Devin White, and Aranda aren't walking through that door and we are worse off in terms of available scholarships than in 2018 and will likely have a dark Title IX cloud hanging over us.

I just don't see it. And that is ok, let's just get back to being competitive in every game and finishing top 15 to set up a title run in 2022.

Saying it’s not possible with our talent level (including this class) and potential coaching upgrades is just as short-sighted.

Are you 12? I could also win the lottery. I could also get struck by lightning. Yes, it is not physically impossible for LSU to end the season top 5, but I'm saying they won't.

Great gotcha dude

It can't be stressed enough that Burrow showed up over the summer in 2018 and that was before we implemented the offensive changes. In 13 games Burrow threw for 16 TDs. In 9 games with rotating and FR QBs we have 21 TDs. Give these kids an offseason to prepare and clean up the defensive issues and 2021 will be significantly better. We will be a better D in the front 7 and adding the top 2 safeties will help. There may or may not be a new D staff, but there's no way to go but up for the D in 2021.

Probably, but I wouldn't rule it out. We played a lot of talented freshman who lacked experience. Now they have experience. I actually think we will be a good team next year.

We just had a disastrous year, a huge portion of our staff is getting replaced

I'm not so sure this is true either. Likely wishful thinking by many on this Board. Play on the field was poor, but that's what happens when half your team goes to the NFL or opts out and your left with 53 scholarship players on your roster.

quote:

we’re not sure how Brennan’s injury is going to heal

You could say that about any injury. You're the first I have heard to voice this concern. Moreover, the two backups looked pretty solid. I'm not convinced Brennan is that much better than the others. Again, talented freshmen who now have experience.

we don’t know who is coming back

What school does?

quote:

shite we might even see a new head coach from Title IX stuff.

Doubtful that happens

quote:

Not to mention we’ll have like 70 scholarship players at most on roster.

Serious question, are we not allowed to accept transfers to increase our roster? Is it confirmed that all of the opt-outs are not returning? If we don't know who is returning, how can it be determined that we will have only 70 scholarship players?

We are in a full on rebuild in the program.

True, but we've just had back to back to back top 5 recruiting classes. I think I recall many predicting 6-6 seasons for 2019.

I'll probably get destroyed for this comment, but if the gumps can do it year after year and finish 1 or 2, why can't LSU finish at least in the top 5 every year?

2016: 2nd
2017: 7th
2018: 15th (only had 22 recruits, but added transfers Burrow, York and Stanford kid)
2019: 5th
2020: 4th
2021: currently 3rd

Outside of 2018 when we didn't sign a full class we hit that mark or at least came close. I think that's not as much of an issue as hitting areas of need consistently. OL remains a challenge. DL and QB used to be, but we are trending up there.

OSU was happy he didn't sign anywhere yet, but they are not optimistic from what I've seen. He said he hasn't had time to visit OSU but since saying that visited OU twice and Florida once, when both those schools are much further from him.

The #5 team this year has Kellen Mond at QB. Anything is possible.

It starts with leadership. Joe owned that team like a God and was respected across the board. He earned it. Finley played tough but Johnson came in and really played incredible on the road against the nations #4 team. Jesus Christ that was an amazing game for him. He could be the future

Top 5 in the nation final rank after the bowls and playoffs?

Next year?

No. No chance. Totally zero chance.

That doesn’t mean we may not be much improved.

But in the CFP era. The final 4 unless there is a huge blowout get preference in the final poll.

So you would either have to be in the CFP or the best team after the bowls not in the playoff.

Even if everyone comes back and every signee and transfer is 100% ready to play. There is no chance 2021 is a 1 or 2 loss team.

We are looking 4 or 5 losses.

Prepare for it.

We are more likely to be outside the top 5 in the SEC than in the top 5 nationally.

Yeah Catfish, I'm hearing you, but to use the word ludicrous is where I don't agree...
