Agree and at 375 Ika has still been better this week.
If Sopsher is Ego or Freak I'll take it. They both started or were rotational early. What I don't want is Al Woods who took his entire career to contribute enough to matter. He has had a long career in the league though.
Imo just another case of an overrated LA DT. Been a lot of them in the rankings era.

Al Woods has been in the NFL for almost a decade now and LSU fans still bash him.
Ferguson was a smaller guy than Sopsher.
Ferguson was a smaller guy than Sopsher.

Yea Ika is the better player right now.
He’s not particularly tall for a lineman at 6’2”. At his height he needs to be around 330. Trim that fat, mold his muscle and raw strength and he could be dominant.

Sopsher is huge and actually projects as a SDE for us. He'll have to really bust to make zero impact with that size and athleticism at that position.

Sopsher's future is in his great big hands. If he devotes himself to his conditioning and improving his technique, he will be a very disruptive, effective defensive tackle or even nose tackle and make a nice living in the NFL for 6 to 12 years.
However, if he does not mature and devote himself to his craft, he will be an Anthony Johnson-esque bust.
You cannot teach the God-given size and natural speed/acceleration this young man has. But he has to employ them.

I'd say Ika was another Shelvin, and will need a year or so to get to playing weight. I don't believe that though.
It looks like Ika is more explosive at 375 than Shelvin was. A realistic playing weight for him may be 340 or so at the nose.

How much has Shelvin actually improved his strength and conditioning since he’s been at LSU?
Posted on 1/3/19 at 4:59 pm to LuckyTiger
Yeah, no faith in our training staff to get these guys in shape. They have to be self starters based on history.

Enough to finally find himself on the field for more than 10 snaps. It definitely did take too long though.
I think Ika finds himself on the field sooner than Shelvin did.

People don’t teally bash him but just point out that he was underwhelming at LSU, which he was. It’s nice that he’s made a decent career in the nfl but that doesn’t change his lack of impact in college. He was a top recruit, a five star DT who was pursued by every top program in the country who didn’t consistently start until his senior year and when he did had minimal effect.

I wonder if his big brother joining him can motive him. If they play together, What type of drive does Rodeny have?

This is exactly why you continue to recruit him and let the situation work itself out. He may be playing himself out of his Bama offer, and if that happens, he won't be able to use Rodney as leverage.

He got dominated by 6' 200 offensive lineman all year long.
I don’t know if that’s fair. There’s clips of him absolutely dominating as well.
I don’t think he’s a slam dunk recruit like Stingley but you can see why he’s highly regarded.

Ika needs a lot of training and conditioning. Boy is flat out just fat. 325? More like 375.
Guess we'll see Saturday.

His potential is enormous given his size and quickness but he is a significant project. He has absolutely no technique, no instincts, lack of vision and anticipation, and his desire and motivation is questionable.
So he's Anthony "Freak" Johnson?
Posted on 1/3/19 at 6:33 pm to PetroBabich
He is Willie Allen as a DT.

And Al Woods is playing in the NFL and playing very well

Reminds me of the Davenport kid from N. LA 7-8 years ago. I believe he ended up transferring to Tulane and moving to OL. Massive kid that got by on size in HS.

I hope not another davenport

Is this down voted because it's not probable? I like the idea of this a lot.
