We go tore up because our D Line got their arse kicked at the point of attack the whole game.

They were get pushed 5 yards back off the ball every play.

We have 2 committed. May grab another in the portal to offset losing Baskerville and Jones.

Great question. I’ve asked all year. Baskerville is decent in space but neither he or especially Penn want to blow up anything like true LSU LBs

It was both. The linebackers were horrible.

How do you get outschemed when they are running the ball right at you?

Their running game is very simple.

I'm sorry but most of that was Achane being a freak.

depending on who might hit the portal, if there was a good ILB, that's one spot i wouldn't be surprised if we took someone, but only if they felt it was an upgrade.

Imo, they will take players at all 3 levels of the defense.

They lost 7 games. Did he just become a freak?

He sat out at least 2 games before the LSU game it may have been 3. When I heard he was playing against us I was worries he would be well rested. He was by far their best player this year.

Them losing 7 games has very little to do with a single running back. He has over 1,000 yards rushing this year to go along with 36 catches. He averaged 7 yards per carry last year on 130 touches. So no, he did not just become a freak.

Not that we don’t need to grab a ready-to-play ILB if one’s available, but I think Penn is gonna transform his body with a full year in the nutrition/conditioning program and take a pretty big leap. I think he has good instincts, but is a little too soft/weak/slow. If he can shed some baby fat and add some good muscle, he’ll be able to go sideline to sideline better and make some of those plays that he seemed to be just a little late on this year.

What about that Fields kid we got from South Carolina, maybe? Was he eligible to play this year? Is he a potential starter or just a depth guy? Is younger Weeks good enough to play as a freshman?

I think Penn really grew up as a SEC linebacker this season. I think we will see a different linebacker in him next season, he has really come on as of late except for the aTm game, anxious to see what he can do next year.

He's having statistically a worst season than Welter who everyone (9 years later) still shite on.

Penn has been atrocious. He's very slow, can't shed blocks, and struggles tackling.

Tolan should be given a chance to start

statistically

Can you define the statistics you're looking at? If it's just accumulation stats like tackles, then my opinion is those are irrelevant as Penn has played far fewer snaps than Welter.

I've watched both of these guys play and Penn is significantly more talented than Welter.

Also, part of the reason Welter gets talked about so much, is because Kendall Beckwith was just sitting on the bench behind him and it was frustrating that Miles and Chavis refused to play him.

ETA - I just had to check their stats out and I have no idea what stats you're even looking at. Penn III has more TFL in one season than Welter had in 4 years at LSU. Also, Welter's only statistically decent year wasn't much better than Penn was this year.

Welter

Penn III

He's way too inconsistent to be called good. He makes a good play then he takes terrible angle which is why we get gashed for a 30 yard run. I'm not impressed by Penn. I think ILB is a big need personally. Penn makes me nervous as hell to let him have that spot again next year considering how inconsistent he is. Can he better? Sure but if someone better pops up you go for it.

He could end up like Clark having a big year next year when nobody gave him a chance before due to his struggles. Penn is similar to that. He shows flashes but then he goes full tropical thunder retard on the next play.
