I'm tired of hearing about star ratings. Will they ever do away with it?

Does a 3star or 5star ranking even matter any more besides recruiting sites selling subscriptions?

I'm tired of hearing podcast or radio shows Especially lately on 104.5 pushing the issue

All I got Hoss..

Idk ask LSU If they matter. Of course there’s always gonna be a few 3 stars that turn out to be studs (Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Justin Jefferson) but there’s far more of them that just turn out to in fact be 3 star talents. Meanwhile guys like idk....
Jamal Adams
Tre’Davious White
Patrick Peterson
Derek Stingley Jr
Jacoby Stevens
Tyler Shelvin
K’Lavon Chaisson
Kristian Fulton
Ja’Marr Chase
Terrace Marshall
Leonard Fournette
Jarvis Landry
Glenn Dorsey
Etc etc etc were all rated as 5 stars by recruiting services for a reason...

The recruiting sites are right more than they are wrong it’s just the wrongs get all the headlines.

And it’s not just the recruiting sites that get it wrong. A 5 star with offers from LSU, Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, etc. that ends up being a bust fools everyone.

Not sure what the problem is. Star rankings, whether accurate or not for future projections, are just a convenient short-hand for prospect discussion.

What do you expect? Every time a talking head mentions a recruit, should they rattle off every attribute that makes him a potential great prospect?

As others in this thread have pointed out. Look at the success of the teams who are consistently recruiting top-5 classes vs. the next top-20 vs. the next top-50. Huge drop offs in talent and team success. I think as a generality, stars represent a somewhat solid perspective relative to where your team stands atleast for the fans who don’t follow recruiting and HS prospects too closely.

Stars aren’t everything but they aren’t baseless either...

Evaluating and projecting players matters.

Stop listening to podcasts about recruiting rankings if stars grinds your gears.

The stars are there to sorta help us evaluate players but they’re just some guys opinion.

The average fan will never have enough time to view thousands of players.

That’s being said they aren’t the do all end all. There are great 3 stars that never get the rankings love for some reason or another.

But it’s a good jumping off point.

There is no sure fire thing ever recruit is a gamble but a 5 star is like betting on black or red and a 2 star is like betting on Green.

You’re way more likely to win with a team of 5 stars.

That’s why coaches with options stock up on 4-5 stars and then pick and choose the 2-3 stars they think are hidden gems
