If Underwood makes it to campus, fans need to realize, he's not a day 1 starter!

It's clear to see Underwood has a lot of talent, but fans need to realize he has to earn the starting job over some very talented QBs already on the roster. Forget about all the ridiculous amounts of money being thrown around to land him, he's still a high school kid that has to learn a new system, and more importantly, earn the trust of his teammates.

It's one thing to start as a true freshman like wide receiver Ryan Williams did at Alabama, but the QB position requires a complete understanding of a very complex offense, ability to read defenses and audible to a better play, know when to throw and when to run, and know how to protect the football.

I'm just as excited as the rest of the fans about Underwood coming to campus, but we just need to be realistic and not expect too much from a young kid.

Have you seen Underwood’s tape? The look is a Jayden Daniels 2.0.

If he can hand it off up the middle into a wall of people he already knows every 2nd down play we run. Just need to learn 1st and 3rd down plays.

You never know. I doubt he’s a day 1 starter but he may get to camp and blow up at the start.

Any fan that thinks a true freshman can start at a SEC school like LSU
is a F`n moron.Hell Payton Manning didn`t start at Tenn util late in his 1 st
season after an injury and PM was a football studying freak.Half of the
LSU fans wanted JD benched his 1st year here.

Jake Fromm started as a true freshmen off GA…. They went to the natty. Jus saying you can start an house talented frehmen qb if you have the pieces around him and if he’s ready

He might very well start day 1 if Nuss leaves, but you are right that it’s a lot for someone to come in and play like they belong as a true freshman QB. It’s going to be even more difficult for him considering we are going to be breaking in a whole new OL and (as of now) an average at best WR group. You also have the fact that we have a terrible run game that is at least partially to do with having a poor run scheme.

If he was walking into last years personnel, he would probably have a much better season, but it’s going to be a huge adjustment next year.

If Nuss goes pro he’s 100% a day 1 starter even if he’s not he’ll be the starter by season’s end

Complex offense? Have you watched this preschool play calling this year?

I’m sure Underwood could probably master Sloans so called “complex” offense in a week or so. Throw a bomb on first down or pass out in the flat for no gain. Run straight up the gut for 1 yd on 2nd down, then heave another bomb down the field on 3rd. Nothing complex about it.

In that game Fromm was a true freshman who lost to true freshman Tua, who replaced Jalen Hurts, who won the natty as a true freshman. Anyone who thinks a freshman QB can't start in major college football hasn't followed closely in the last 15 years.

God if Nuss comes back our fan base will be a shite show. The second Nuss throws an INT more than half of the fan base will be bitching for him to be benched and Underwood to play.

If Nuss does end up leaving, and I think he does, Underwood would be a Day 1 starter. He is coming in January for a reason. You would either start a redshirt sophomore in Rickie Collins, a backup in AJ Swann, or a redshirt freshman in Hurley. Swann is the only one with experience and it is obvious he is the third string here. Unless Rickie is just that much better than Underwood, it does not make sense to start Rickie. Anytime Rickie makes a mistake, the fan base will call for his head. Bryce is walking onto campus as the starter.
