If rankings stay the same, this would be first year since 2016 we are ranked above UGA.

Granted, we beat them in 2018 and 2019 on the field.

But they have become the standard with Bama on a talent level.

I’m glad Kelly has really taken us to the next level. 2026 should be even better!

UGA better enjoy their time in the sun while it lasts. It won’t last much longer with the way things are going at LSU.

We comin’

I want this to be the new standard. Dont have to be top 3 every year like the Saban dynasty, but dont get lazy like the end of Les and Eds tenure.

To be fair, Les's last full class was #2 overall and Ed's was #3 overall.

Georgia has two five stars likely to commit, going to be tough to stay ahead.

you right. Just went back and looked. That 2016 LSU class was loaded

Well I certainly had a different memory. I guess it was more along the lines of the talent not being as good as rankings shown. Even though that 2016 class was a good ending.

Unless LSU can pull some kind of rabbit out of their hat with Jonah or French then I don’t see LSU staying ahead of UGA with two 5 star d-linemen very likely to commit to UGA at any time now.

Oh for sure. 2016 class was great. Les did everything right except change the offense. All the pieces were there

Orgeron on the other hand chased class rankings, disregarded positional depth, became hyperfixated on specific, highly ranked, out of state players with no contingency plans, slow played/pulled offers from good lower ranked players (Arbams-draine, devonta smith, Edge Cooper off the top of my head) and clearly didn't put in any effort to actually sustain the program (Pelini hire without interview, "running the joe brady offense").

I don't foresee a situation where Kelly falls into either of those traps. He's shown the ability to adapt in his short time here and doesn't seem like the type to ever get complacent or lack preparation.

Out of curiosity, I did some research on guys that O chased and missed out on, while also looking at some decommits/slow plays.

2017
- Whiffed on Cam Akers while slow playing Ettienne
- Slow played Devonta Smith and tried to get Jhamon Ausben. Lost both. Really lucked out getting JJ because he was a legacy. I beleive Orgeron said that on record too. He only got an offer because he was a legacy guy.
- Whiffed on Marvin Wilson while slow playing Phi Mathis.
- I believe he nudged Monty Rice out of the class to make room for Tyler Taylor. One became an all conference and NFL linebacker and the other is a felon.
- unrelated but remember when Todd Harris called a press conference to make his decision right before his senior season and committed to playing for Plaquemine (where he was already at high school) and a bunch of recruiting guys got furuious that he wasted their time

This is a much larger research project than I thought. Will probably do other years tomorrow. I know he has some great recruiting wins over the years but just looking at 2017, it's easy to see why things didn't last.

That was stupid to move on from Monty Rice but Tyler Taylor got significant playing time before both Pat Queen and Jacob Phillips and looked really good. Taylor could have been a beast if he wasn’t such an idiot.

I’m not sure we slow played Devonta Smith. He was a hot prospect from day 1 but never had interest in lsu coming out of Amite with the barbershop bro

2024 was supposed to be the year, for sure we're going to finish top 15, hell of a year.

2025 is our year for sure. Just need to clean up our defense.

If not 2025 for sure 2026, when our QB situation gets more crystallized

If not 2026 for sure 2027 when Bryce Underwood is a stud

If not 2027 for sure 2028

There are two 5* players in Georgia that are heavily favored to commit to Georgia. It's a long way to signing day.

If we can stay with these elite level defensive assistants and the offense can sustain its success, I can definitely see us in the playoffs from this year forward and see at least a couple of championship contenders in from 2024-2028.

I can see our recruiting picking up if we turn this defense around in Bakers first year. LSU will have tons of momentum and media hype. Even if we beat USC like 41-20 or 31-20 but look good overall doing it, the hype will start. Of course there will be the haters who always doubt what LSU is showing. I love it when we beat a ranked team soundly and then they start saying well we don’t really know what USC really has this year.

I don’t ever hear that for most other teams. LSU is usually judged a little more harshly for whatever reason. Doesn’t really matter because we have plenty of showcase games to prove doubters wrong, I’m just tired of it. I suppose once BK gets LSU on a consistent upward trajectory, then that will go away and we will be judged more fairly or more consistently. I get it but damn. Can’t wait for this season to get started. I’m ready to see what we have.

What is the point of this stupid arse post? Expectations were low in recent years because of how Ed O imploded the program. Brian Kelly and company have righted the ship and are recruiting at an elite level right now.

Expectations are now ramping up.

Nothing wrong in recruiting nationally.

Tennessee did this very well in their late 90’s and early 2000’s heyday.

At one point I think they had players on their roster from 17 different states.
