I think we learned today not to spend too much time chasing big fish out of state

Several high-quality prospects were processed because kids from out of state led the staff down a road of thinking they were going to sign.
At the end of the day, the big time blue-chip players know they will end up playing in the NFL. They can get there regardless of what team they go to, which is why you’re seeing said kids stay at home and play for bad teams.
I think it’s clear that the success of this program didn’t really mean much to several of the big targets they were going after. In my opinion, it would’ve been wise to sign the local four-star kids and not put too much time into these kids on the other side of the country.
And some of you will say that I wouldn’t have this opinion if the big fish had signed; and how do you know they aren’t interested until you spend time with them blah blah blah. But that’s my point. They processed players thinking they would get the big fish and didn’t. And at the end of the day lost some very good recruits by getting greedy.
I’m not knocking the staff for swinging for the fences, because they’ve landed several studs in this class. I’m just saying it’s clear that when you have as much talent as the state of Louisiana, it’s best to put the ball in play. Unless it’s one of your historic pipelines like Texas, etc.
For me personally, I’m not going to waste my time and money following the whole recruiting drama for months or years on end anymore. None of these so-called experts really know what these kids are going to do. Because the kids really don’t know what they’re going to do either. I’ll simply check in when the pen meets the paper and look at their highlights on YouTube. Because most of this recruiting news is truly bull$*** and speculation.
Go Tigers!

No, that approach will not change just because of today.

People have been complaining for years that we haven't been recruiting well enough out of state, and now they want us to crawl back into our hole?

Well that’s stupid then.

Our two best recruits are from out of state...

Don't put too much stock in "silent commits" that's for certain.

Nah, you have to go in deep waters to catch the needed big fish. Just aren’t as easy to catch.

Hell no, when you recruit the top of top guys, you're going to lose sometimes. There is no telling what the Marylands and Georgias are going to do to get whom they want. Are they cheating? Apparently better than us, but you do what you can.

We learned the opposite. We learned to go after the best players and not get saddled with marginal players because of muh fence.
Signing a player from Louisiana that may not work out and leaves with bad feelings is worse than not signing a player at all.
LSU did not see any of the players let go as stars.

I can't figure out for the life of me how some of you forget about the last signing day every fricking year. Today is no different than every signing day the last 5 or six years.
The idiots rule the board on signing day. They will be here next year. Try not to forget this time.

What about Elias Ricks or Arik Gilbert?
How about Dumervil and Webb?
O is making LSU a national brand in recruiting. Yes he missed on a couple but two years ago a player like Burch would not have even had a LSU hat on the table. Maybe next year he gets that player. You don’t give up because a couple said no.

This is not that good of a signing class but it's only early signing day

This year was probably a “heat check” type of strategy. It’s kind of like the guy who nails 5 straight jumpers and then throws one up from 35 feet.
If LSU follows this year with another year where our offense looks elite (even if we don’t make the playoffs) LSU will begin to solidify its brand to the point where it does better nationally.
It’s not like LSU has that much room to make up.
Having said that, in hindsight, we probably made a couple of bad decisions.
