I think this will be a fad more than a consistent thing.

For one thing, if these guys do start going to HBCUs they won’t have the opportunity to play in the CFB playoffs or for a major CFB National Championship.

Also, I don’t think they’ll be able to bring in a large number of top recruits bc they probably won’t have the financial backing to pay the NIL deals these guys can get at major universities. They may be able to pay a couple which will help in the SWAC, but that’s about it.

Another thing, unless the major networks make changes due to a few big recruits going to smaller schools, they won’t get many(if any)games on TV during prime time. I know ESPN shows some games on some of their side channels, but short of the Bayou Classic, I don’t see or hear much hype about HBCU games.

They main take away is I’m glad it was a school other than LSU that lost the top player in the country on signing day lol.

Take away the Barstool factor, this would not have happened

This is a perfect storm with Deion and Barstool to pay the bill. This is the exception not the norm.

So? What percentage of NFL players had a real shot of playing in the CFB playoffs or a National Championship?

Once these investments don't pay off companies will be more close to the vest than giving out cash to numerous recruits. It will get much more selective.

Deion is a driven guy with connections galore. This won’t be the last deal he puts together

It’s the dumbest decision you could possibly make. You feel bad for morons like this.

Idc who you are. You don’t get the same growth at a D2 school. You’re harder to evaluate. Less exposure.

Nobody outside of recruiting nuts will know who this kid is in a year. Most people only pay attention to D1 football.

Way less talent on the teams. Football is his job now (I assume he wants to go pro). You need to do the best things possible to succeed. Playing against a bunch of kids who couldn’t hack it I’m D1 is t going to help your pro prospects.

Just probably the dumbest decision someone could possibly make. Doesn’t affect LSU so I don’t care. I just feel bad that this kid made the worst decision of his life and it was in front of a national audience

It's so frustrating when ppl won't admit there true feelings. OP should be a politician. When a mid major type school pulls in a top recruit nobody bats an eye. But all the idiots come out when it's an HBCU that gets top recruits.

The post makes it sound like the OP is afraid of something. What are you afraid exactly?

The only people that matter are NFL scouts, and they are not "most people". They evaluate everyone.

Who cares if they're not a household name?

Well a couple of points. 1) I agree this does not impact LSU. But with a caveat, yet. A recruit from LA HS could go to play for Deon just like Hunter did. 2) I agree, kids that go to HBCU's will not get a national audience. I have no rooting interest and don't watch HBCU football anymore than I watch the ULL's or McNeese States of the world. I am an LSU fan and will always watch LSU.

But with all that said, if more and more HBCU's can find ways to leverage NIL deals for top notch recruits, more of the top notch Black HS football recruits could wind up at HBCU's just like Hunter did.

It is not outside the realm of possibility that Hunter could be a game changer. It might turn out to be a fad as well.

With this NIL, market place will sort it out. Now just like the SEC regulates the US stock market, there perhaps does need to be some regulations put in place but with NIL and the Portal, college football is basically semi-pro ball. Lets just be honest about it.

They’re flat out not getting the same education at a HBCU as they would at a D1 university. It is what it is. I get that some of these kids couldn’t care less about school but “giving back to the community” and giving up the chance to play at Vanderbilt or Stanford in favor of Southern is astoundingly stupid

If you are good enough people will notice. Jackson state has games on ESPN this year and have an upcoming game on ABC.

It’s not going to be a trend. It’s not even a fad. It’s one kid. One kid isn’t a fad or a trend. It’s just one person who made a stupid decision.

And NFL scouts have a harder time evaluating D2 talent because they play terrible competition. It’s just stupid on every level.

This will never be “a thing” because there aren’t enough stupid people to go around doing this kind of stupid thing. Even these (often) unintelligent football players are smart enough to realize if they go to the best school possible, playing the best talent, they have a better chance to go pro.

I’d be willing to bet that this kid WILL NOT be a 1st round pick. I know that wasn’t guaranteed at FSU (it’s a pretty crap school in a crap conference anyway) but his chances at going 1st round were incalculably higher playing D1 football. This dumb decision probably knocked it down to like a less than 1% chance
