I see no reason why we can't snag two legit Dlineman after Spring in the portal

I get why people are panicking but the more I think about it LSU is a national brand and with a legit Defensive coaching staff in place I think we can get at least two proven legit players. I mean the chosen guys have to know that the last coaching staff is gone and LSU gives them a legit place to show their talent on the biggest stage. Two 10 win seasons and Kelly getting rid of the entire defensive coaching staff just shows me that we are in good hands plus we got some great incoming freshman and transfers to improve our secondary so LFG!!!

I see no reason why we cant either. We need at least one proven power 5 starter this spring

There is a Lance Heard type DT (a talented young player) sitting behind some talent at either UGA, Bama, OSU or PSU. Just got to get the word out and have the checkbook ready.

Yep, or starters at smaller schools that get a compelling NIL offer and a chance to start for an SEC school with a chance at the playoffs
They will take note of our current depth chart and see a path to start, it won’t be a tough sell.
The issue is we have to hit on whichever we take

We going to have to do this imo. There isn’t much choice. Unless the new coaches see a path for some of the players to move positions and play within their new scheme. Even then I think as a new DC, you have to make sure that you have the players you need to make an immediate impact in year number 1. You don’t take any chances and you do whatever you have to do to make that happen. Getting players for the future is something else entirely.
Of course if you think you can do both, get a player with multiple years of eligibility and make an immediate impact, then you do that but my priority would be getting players here to impact my first year in the biggest way possible.
If that’s a one year player then great! It’s no different than if we were to keep the starters from this year. IMO we need to replace the best 3 who left. I’d also look at moving Shand and Jones into the middle for a rotation. Those two guys are plenty big enough to play in the middle, especially on 3rd downs. We have the guys who can play the edge and I like some of the freshman for those positions as well.
With Shone, Jones, Shand, Guillory, Lee then bring in 3 starters, we good. You may not have to move Jones or Shand at that point but I think it would be a good idea to try them both in the middle and see how they perform. If one of them are able to play at a high level there, it would be big.
We make room through some of the DBs and LBs. We don’t need some of these DBs and LBs with the freshman who played, the new comers and transfers we picked up. I’d wait until the Spring to get a better idea of who’s who but we can make some room. It’s starts with the DL! We have to get that area fixed. I hope we pick up a real badass DL coach!

Hopefully Dom Mc is ready for some real action as a true freshman. And hopefully we can bring at least one very good one in from the portal.

The coaches better be tampering their asses off in search of a few DTs

Gonna have to. Hopefully some good names pop up in spring and the collective has their bags ready.

I read here that there are no SEC TO SEC transfers allowed in the spring portal.
Not sure if true though.

Only grad transfers I believe. And I think they can still transfer in that portal but won’t be eligible in fall.

So that doesnt help 2024 much.

And based on Smith’s lack of productivity, there is a better chance that we improve at that position.

We can move Smith inside and give McKinley reps and we will at least match Smiths production
All this melting is just the usual suspects overreacting bc they don’t care for BK and they jump to conclusions about what he’s doing or not doing when the reality is they have no fricking clue

its quite obvious, we dont need clues
Even if Smith had stayed, we'd be underdeveloped and lacking depth at that position going into the spring
him leaving makes it worse
doesnt take a coach to know LSU has to pull from the portal in the spring
he can't sit on his hands and knees like he did last transfer window and let quality DTs commit elsewhere
it should have never got to this point!

It's not melting to criticize the retention plan when it failed miserably. Same as it wasn't melting this summer when we couldn't get a DL to save our life. Are we soothsayers that could predict that TAM would completely collapse?(if they would've retained the DL coach we'd still be melting) Melting and constructive criticism are not the same. The true melters are those unwilling to criticize the staff yet jump at the chance to criticize those that do ask questions.
I've been waiting all day for the gloaters to explain how the retention strategy's failure is a positive. Seems to have quieted down a bit. Instead we've gotten 30 threads asking about transfers(which we could've looked into prior to now just in case this happened). Even then it constantly has to be explained that the SEC to SEC transfer period is over. And the melters are the crazy ones.

He won't. Check his post history. He hates all things LSU. Dude couldn't even get excited about landing the #1 player in the country's commitment.

Yea that’s what I figured. That’s probably true for most of the folks being so vocal in their catastrophizing of this situation
Kelly and staff can do no right for some of them and that’s just what it is so nothing short of a natty will appease them and that’s their right but damn if it makes you that unhappy, find another way to spend your free time
