How would OU/TX [moving to the SEC] affect LSU recruiting?

I can see it as a major advantage to be able to cherry pick who we want from Texas

I mean...we've *never* been able to "cherry pick who we want from Texas"

In 2021, our top-ranked texas signee was the 14th best player in the state. In 2020, our top ranked texas signee was the 18th best player in the state. We landed 2 of the top 30 kids in the state in both of those cycles. In 2019 we only landed 1 of the top 30 kids from Texas.

We do fine in texas, but we certainly don't go in and take whoever we feel like. And Texas and OU moving to the SEC would be a huge hit--not an advantage at all.

don’t know what to think about OU. Riley is a good coach but might could leave for the NFL. I don’t know what kind of money they’re working with in comparison to SEC schools.

I feel like he is going to be there for a while.

I think them joining hurts lsu and i would vote no.

Recruiting in Texas is about to be the wild Wild West with Sooners in the Dallas area and Longhorns/Aggies fighting in the Houston area
That's already the way it is ByrdMan. What's going to be different is the NIL. Not only will we not have the advantage of saying "come play in the SEC" with only one Texas rival, but we simply can't compete with the money the alums of TX/TXA&M, SMU/TCU/Rice, and others can throw at these kids over or under the table.
If it's all about personal brand there's only so much we can do. I sure hope I'm underestimating our capabilities. I'm also guessing the transfer portal will be even more of a whirlwind at first.
Hopefully, the same people who were on top of Times Square have been hard at it behind the scenes on this too.

Obviously it would have the biggest impact on A&M recruiting, but what would it mean for LSU?

Curious to get some of the hardcore recruiting guys’ opinion on the potential additions and how it will impact LSU.

Doesn't UT and OU already compete for the same players as LSU? Why does losing more games in an SEC schedule suddenly change things for recruiting against those teams?

It doesn't and yes you're right. This does nothing for OU and UT pipelines in the South. I just don't see it outside of some outliers where an SEC OU and UT are picking players from GA, FL, and LA. However with a leg up on both programs talent wise we can pull more TX talent if we win head to head matchups + more L's on their conference schedule on average than prior. This panic is just like when A&M came over. They were supposed to pick off LA's best talent as the new up and comer

If anything! I feel it will be easier to get these young men to come to LSU. We play these opponents yearly imagine more TV coverage etc

We will be fine , I can understand the Aggie panic though, couldn’t happen to a better program. Honestly may hinder the Crimson Tide greatly. They have been getting the cream of the crop from Texas, much more than Sabins La. connections. Case in point the Brockermeyeer twins would be Longhorns if they had the SEC moniker vs Big 12. There father stated this in an interview.

I actually think it will actually help us. Oklahoma is going to lose that automatic bid to playoffs and UT will do well when they starts winning games and that just got a lot harder.

More Texas kids and players will be watching SEC games etc and it’s a huge damn state. I see LSU as the first non Texas school on a lot of top recruits list, and like it or not we have a lot more in common with Texas than Alabama. It will really hurt the other big twelve schools like Baylor and purple Baylor etc. We are well equipped to battle for recruits with anyone but was more Texas kids and family’s make trip to Baton Rouge we will quickly become a force in Texas. On the down side they will go after a lot of North Louisiana kids too.

It’ll hurt some a lot of players leave to play in the SEC and now they’ll have 3 choices instead of just the faggies, but some players want to leave the state all together just like some leave Louisiana, get out and get into something new.

It will make it much harder because we no longer can have the lure of playing in the SEC to recruits considering either of Texas and OU but winning cures everything. If we win the recruits will come from all around.

More positive I’d think. We are going to be getting a lot more coverage and Texas kids will be taking LSU even more seriously.

I think that, 5-10 years ago, this would be significantly bad.

Now, though, recruiting is so national, that I don't think it's a big deal. There's a potential loss of a few kids, but it also means that a lot more kids in places like Dallas end up watching more LSU football on TV.

Big time.

LSU will have to step up. We are doing pretty damn good in recruiting, will be hard to hold the line.

Two more elite programs in the SEC.
