I remember Russell Sheppard and Ryan Perrilloux. It’s been over 10 years since LSU has landed a 5 star QB. Unfortunately neither of those guys really worked out for us. Just curious how many others the program has gotten over the years?

Star rankings are ridiculously overrated. I could put a lineup together of 5* players that LSU signed and then put a lineup together of 3* and 4* players that LSU signed that would beat the 5* players 99 times out of 100.

This comment always baffles me

Yea “stars” don’t mean Everything.. but you’re telling me you’d take a roster of 3 stars over a roster of 5 stars?

A kid doesn’t get a 5 star rating for shits and giggles. It means something

These retards always say this shite, then wonder why our depth is so bad when 3/4ths of our 3*s transfer out or get passed up immediately by more talented freshman

Of course you could because you'd have over 1000 three and four star players to choose from compared to the 100 or so 5 star players. Sometimes players skip through the cracks. Reranking certain players and some would be switched from a 3 star to a 5 star (Mathieu, Jefferson, CEH, etc.) and others would drop from a 5 star to a 2 or 3 (Al woods, Clifton Garrett, Russell Shepard, etc.) But looking at it logically 5 stars are hits more often than 3 or 4 star recruits. There are just so many more three and four star recruits taken that sometimes you get the guys that services whiffed on.

I'd like to know how many 5* QB's are starting or on second string on NFL rosters. Not saying they aren't great to have, but QB is a very hard position to rank and predict.

High profile names like, Tyrell Pryor and Tate Martell come to mind first. As long as they have the awareness, arm strength, vision, and mobility to match their scheme, they have the tools. QB development and scheming determines the outcome of a QB. Georgia's had several 5*'s and found a way to fck that up.

No he didn't say he'd take 3 stars over 5 stars. He said he'd take these particular 3 stars over those particular 5 stars. It's all about the coach's evaluation. We pay these coaches gobs of money because of their expertise in evaluation and then so many guys here place higher emphasis on some magazine writer's eval. THAT ALWAYS AMAZES ME.

Ever is a long time. The star rating system has only been around for about 20 years, in it's current form.

There were rankings, blue chip lists, etc., but it was a different format and hard to compare.

Josh Booty would've been a 5 star. Tommy Hodson probably would've been.

Not sure how many, but keep winning Natty's every few years and I'm good with whatever stars they've been given.

Sure, but if we randomly gave you 40 4 stars and I got a random 40 5 stars my team would beat the living shite out of yours.

Where in the original post is the word random used? he's not saying random. he's saying select 3 stars. The coachs' evaluations and development are far more important that stars.

Easily, considering he was a 4 star.

Both would have easily been 5*!

You have a much higher hit rate on 5 star players making the NFL and being contributors. Let’s take a look at the 5 start players in the classes from 2007 to 2016 and see how many were drafted. That will give us a 10 period where all the recruits are off the roster. I’m using the composite

2007 - 1 5 star - Tolliver was not drafted. He was still a solid player.

2008 - 1 5 star - Patrick Peterson

2009 - 4 5 stars - Shepard and Randle were drafted. Loston was a good player. Davenport was a bust.

2010 - No 5 stars

2011 - 3 5 stars - Landry and Collins were drafted. I’m counting Collins here as without the investigation fiasco he would have been drafted and is a great NFL player. Johnson was a solid player, but didn’t reach his potential.

2012 - No 5 stars

2013 - No 5 stars

2014 - 4 5 stars - Fournette, Dupre, and Adams drafted. Garrett was a bust.

2015 - 3 5 stars - None drafted. Tolliver was a decent player for us. Johnson and Teuhema were busts.

2016 - 2 5 stars - Fulton and Lawrence drafted.

56% of our 5 star recruits were drafted. This is in line with the rest of the 5 stars across the country.

22% of players were busts
