Dandy Don posted this yesterday:

McKinley is 6-7, 280 pounds and runs a 4.7 forty-yard dash.

If this is true, we have a super freak on our radar, just need to get him on-board...

I am pretty convinced and would imagine the data works out this way that Louisiana prospects are underrated a tick below than they would if they were located in big media market states like Texas (Houston, Dallas), Florida, California, Georgia (Atlanta).

I'm convinced the data would prove that out about Louisiana and Mississippi. Southern strong boys that get no exposure in their small(er) towns. Saban figured this out decades ago. They're built different.

Last season, having watched Perkins, he was a given. But you watch Campbell and Emery Jones, did the recruiting services miss on those two? What about Mason Taylor’s 3*? I think I’d trust the coaching staff over most of those services.

Arik Gilbert: 5* TE that was the number 10 overall player in the country. He's now on his 3rd college.

Justin Jefferson: 2*. The best receiver in the NFL.

I'm not saying recruiting sites have no idea what they're doing. But inaccurate assessments happen all the time.

He is on 247. His composite ranking is a 4* though.

But, it's completely irrelevant. Throw however many stars you want at this kid, everyone in the country wants him.

He’s a five star.

Even if he’s not a five star, he’s a five star.

Both of these are terrible examples of recruiting sites having "no idea what they're doing."

I understand why you say that about Gilbert. The guy was clearly a freak talent, but he was also a mental case.

I don't understand why you say that about JJ. He was clearly WAY underrated.

Gilbert has superstar ability and traits. He has shown both. He also has extreme mental health issues which have kept him off the field.

Jefferson was a very late bloomer. By the time he had matured physically, he wasn’t going to be eligible to play division 1 college football, so he was an after thought for the recruiting sites. There’s a reason he signed with LSU in like August.

Arik Gilbert was a no brainer 5*. None of the recruiting services got that wrong. They can't predict him being a nutcase

3 years ago I'd agree with you. In 2023 if you look at the variation of rankings across the services it's become so extreme that you have to think they're prioritizing the business somehow more than trying to get it right.

Harold Perkins is a good example. If he had played in New Orleans, his hometown, instead of Houston he would likely be a 5* still but not top 5 overall. If Campbell was from Texas he would have been a consensus 5*.

I would imagine a lot of it is based on competition. 6A schools in Texas hardly ever play a 5A school. We just don't have enough big schools were they only play 5A teams. I think that is why there is some bias when it comes to the ratings. Not saying I agree just that I think that's probably why
