Seriously?

Is this the same thing as giving the Maxwell to the Heisman runner up?

GG is way underrated IMO in the new rivals rankings. His numbers are Shepard-esque ridiculous. Something like 40Tds and 2 Ints (give or take a few tds.) He is the real deal.

Its like 44 Passing Tds and 4 Ints.

17 or 18 Rushing Tds.

Talented, no doubt, but this is a star studded class. Just surprised me that he was picked over the rest, although that must not be an easy task.

Garrett's Official 2008 Stats:

Passing - 69%, 4231 Yards, 48 TDs, 5 INTs
Rushing - 577 Yards, 18 TDs

Not too shabby. Especially when considering the lack of talent surrounding him. Kid has average at best talent at the RB & WR Spots. And that's also with him sitting out most second halves throughout this year.

Than who should have won it instead of Garrett Gilbert?

I think this one was pretty clear. This is a loaded class, but Gilbert was sick

Yeah, the guy put that team on his back. A guy who coached me in High School is one of the coaches out at Lake Travis now. Texas got themselves a stud.

dude's team won state last year and is still alive in the playoffs this year. I would 'assume' that he has better than average talent around him for his team to accomplish this.

The defense is damn good and the OL is as well (including Texas commit Kelley) but the RB and WR talent isn't anywhere close to those two units. There isn't a legitimate DI-A Starting RB or WR on Lake Travis this year. Not one.

I'm speaking out of my arse b/c I haven't seen them play, but I was guessing that they had to have some good players on that team.

On an unrelated note: If Russell Shepard's team had any resemblence of a defense that team would be downright scary.

If they get past Friendswood they will probably have to play Longview in the championship game.
Longview's defense is good, especially a linebacker Chris Weaver. They have two good running backs and thier qb can run too.
