Yep! I like this class by the way. Some of these 3 star players will be very good imo.

Just remember players like Justin Jefferson and Tyran Mathieu, who were both rated as 3 stars or less.

These guys are the outliers.

For every Jefferson / Mathieu there are 10-15 3 stars or less, that don’t pan out.

At the same time, there are 5 stars that flop.

It takes big time talent to beat the top teams Consistently

LSU didn’t become a National power bc a few 2/3 star players became studs. They became a powerhouse by loading the depth chart with 4 & 5 stars.

Half of the NFL is 4 and 5 stars. Half is 3 star and below.

Not a good year for Louisiana HS football.

Gilbert and Dupree are a couple of evaluations busts

Because of statistics. There are drastically more three stars every year so naturally there will be lots in the NFL. The hit rate is higher on 4 and 5 stars, it just is.

Gilbert is absolutely a 5 star talent he’s also a 5 star head case.

This class has what 9 3 stars? Nobody said we should sign all 3 stars, and we didn't do that this season.

Dez-is a freak should be a 5 star Atkins is up for mr football in the state of Texas only defensive player Woodland- got Mississippi player of the year Caden- was put up unreal stats in every game of the playoffs I can on with others. Several guys that are very underrated

Good post. Dunham not being a 5* is malpractice by the recruiting websites. He might be the best RB we’ve signed since Fournette and Guice.

Atkins and Keys are both stud LBs who were all over the field making plays against high octane 5-6 A talent in the playoffs. These aren’t guys that are just dominating against inferior rural schools. Keys was an absolute animal in the state championship game.

I understand that there is a correlation between highly rated recruiting classes and playoff runs, but way too many of our fans make sweeping assumptions about our recruits without ever watching any of them play a down of competitive highschool ball. To those fans— do better.

Exactly. Louisiana is looking a lot better over the next few years. We will be right back in the top 10 in recruiting. Recruiting has drastically changed since the portal anyway. Georgia just lost like 4 or 5 5 star players to the portal. So did Ohio state. I just refuse to cry about the number of 3 stars we recruit with how crazy the recruiting world is with NIL and the portal.

Great post! Some people see 3 stars and just assume they aren't any good. I enjoy watching film on the players we have coming in, and some of these dudes are definitely underrated imo, as well as many others.

Of course they matter to an extent. What I was saying is that every year these experts miss on quite a few players. It's not the end all be all. Multiple teams have made the playoffs without recruiting in the top 10 consistently. Btw LSU won't be one of them. I expect us to be in the top 10 more times than not in the future.

More than half of these guys would be rated one star higher by most of the sites if they were signing with Alabama, and we all know it

Washington and Michigan haven’t had top classes

They also play teams like Nebraska Iowa Colorado and Arizona state every week.

They're about to get their shite rocked in the playoffs by teams with top talent.

They were top ten composite talent when they won.

Even schools like OU, Notre Dame, Oregon, Michigan have not had success in playoffs.

From 2009-2011
5* - 3 (2011 class)
4* - 19
3* - 40

Focus on higher rated player starts
2012-2014
5* - 1
4* - 30
3* - 30

2015-2017
5* - 6
4* - 28
3* - 24

2018-2020
5* - 11
4* - 32
3* - 25

2015-2020
Playoff appearances
6 (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

National Championship appearance
4 (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019)

Playoff appearances
6 (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

Every team will have a fair amount of 3*, but the teams that make NC runs or consistently a contender are signing the top talent year in and year out. That old saying “Jimmie’s and the joes” isn’t just for laughs.

Go look at the 3 classes leading up to a national championship for LSU / Alabama / UGA / Clemson…

Both of their national championship teams had more 5 and 4 stars than 3 stars.
