I realize this topic is a very popular one, and those of us on the board have spoken about these players at length to the point where it's become so beaten to death. But the actual opinion of who is the player you'd really want to be apart of the team is something that is somewhat in the background and I believe it's because of the hope that somehow the staff pulls off what would be a minor miracle and get both guys at the position. So I'm going to stare who I'd choose and why, as well as back up the choice with not just reasons from a talent and fit standpoint, but also from an importance to the overall perception of the class and program sort of deal....

Here goes......

John Emery or Noah Cain.

My pick is Noah Cain....

Both backs are rated as top 5-10 prospects at the running back position as well as being top 50-100 guys nationally. Emery is seen as a slightly better prospect overall and is the top rated offensive player in the state of Louisiana. Cain is a kid that is guy that is from the area and had the choice to join up with the guys at IMG, which is arguably the most powerful "football academy" in the country. The skillset for both players is about as similar as could be. Emery is a half inch taller than Cain, and both guys are roughly the same weight at most times. Cain is listed as being about 15 pounds heavier on the major services. Emery plays at destrehan, a district 7, class 5A school that is listed among the "non-select" schools in the state. Meanwhile IMG varsity football, the blue squad is the better of the two varsity team at the school. The white squad plays against mostly 3 and 4 A floor high school programs while the blue squad plays a national schedule against the "elite" teams from across the country. So the level of competition is night and day. IMG plays against the best teams in the nation and never has a week off. Meaning Cain is doing it against teams that are all nationally ranked and would pretty much whip a team like destrehan on any given day. This is why I'm more a fan of Cain...the kid is 5th overall on the 247 composite and is a starter on arguably the best team in the country. He is the same type of back as Emery except for the the fact that he's doing it against kids that are as an average overall player, are leaps and bounds ahead of the guys Emery faces. Also Emery is coming off as a guy that not only in perception terms but in the words he's actually spoken as a guy who thinks the starting spot should be handed to him and that he is just the best thing since Jesus in the backfield. This is why Emery is even considering miss state and is leaning towards them....because he's literally been told as soon as he steps on campus that he will be the next Saquon Barkley and will have a 1500+ yard season from his freshmen year. Meanwhile I've not heard anything from cain about his desire for any spotlight besides the fact he just wants to see how the tean does and how his spot would be used if and when he joined up. I get ths feeling that Cain will come in and earn Everything he is after and judging from his ability to go to IMG abd win what's he's gotten on his own gameplay, it just tells me that the more committed and stronghearted kid is Cain. This is my main reason for wanting him over Emery. I realize losing Emery would be a bad look nationally from the locking down the star thing but I'm so with living through that if it means that Cain is on board. They are nearly the same talent and tyoe of back except one is doing it against the best of the best and does it with everything he has in him tk earn the right to be at the top. And Emery seems like he is just wanting to be handed the keys to the castle and has no desire to earn what he wants like Cain. I get nothing but the worst of vibes when it comes to Emery, as if he truly thinks he's so good that he should not only get the starting job, but should be the guy who is so much the unquestionable talent that he would go somewhere else because a staff would be so stupid as to bring in anyone else to compete against him and make him earn the spot. Emery is a kid I could live without, but don't get me wrong...I'd love ti have him on the roster and be able to watch his talents, but I could live without the pure madonna type attitude that come with him. This is why I'd rather Cain over Emery all day. And this contradicts some of what I've said before possibly, I've never blatantly said I wanted emery over Cain at all and have stated how badly I think the staff should wait to have him in....but at this point after watching and hearing some stuff that has come out this summer....it makes me reghink just how much we'd really want a kid that is a high on himself as Emery has painted himself as.....

I couldn't even read anything to decide. I got a headache just looking at that huge wall of text. Does your keyboard have an "enter" key?

Recap: Noah Cain is the better prospect because he plays tougher competition, they are roughly the same kind of back, and John Emory wants the starting job handed to him and Noah Cain wants to earn it.

Cain is a patient runner that waits for his blocks to develop and uses his deceptive speed to shoot through the hole. He’s a more physical runner than Emery and can poundnit up the middle if needed. Emery is a home run hitter. Not as physical but has elite speed and is a better receiver out of the backfield. He can take it to the house any time the ball is in his hands. Getting either one to pair with Ty Davis would be a huge win for LSU. That being said, I’m greedy and I want both.

Cain is not the starter at IMG, Trey Sanders is the starter, he's the number 1 tailback in the country. Do your research

Cain, kid wants to be at LSU way more. I want both of them though. If we were to land Cain, Emery, and Davis (very unlikely) it would be one of the best RB classes ever when it’s all said and done.

I want the talented guy who has the WANT (pun intended LOL!) to be an LSU Tiger and understands starts are to be earned, not given. Yeah that guy:).

not a hijack attempt, but that RB haul would be up against some serious past (on paper) competition:

1992 - Curley Hallman. I believe that each of these guys were the top RB in their states. However, I have been wrong about more important things.

David Butler - LA
Robert Davis - Ala
Jay Johnson - TX
Artie Moore - MS
Robert Toomer - GA

Sounds like JaMarr Chase around this time last cycle, though he's probably an exception.

Most kids that say this go to a championship contender or somewhere with an amazing lifestyle like UCLA. Who wants to leave the state to go to Starkville for 3-4 years
