Just a heads up, but Gaines could shoot the 3 in high school.

Gaines shot 44% from 3 his senior year at Lithonia.

Wilkinson is more the defensive guy, hard to find any shooting stats for him at Bishop Gorman though. Cook is gone, but he could shoot the 3 as well.

None of their roles last year was to shoot the ball though.

Gonzaga proved last year you don't have to be centered around the 3 point shot. Went undefeated all the way to the NCAA finals.

Being good at \=\ “being centered around” though

If you are a good shooting team, that opens everything up.

Gonzaga had high FG & high 3pt% and it just so happens they led the nation in assists too.

Creating shots off the pass statistically lends itself to easier buckets & better shots. LSU has gone away from that & it looks to be more of the same this year. Pinson in the Smart role as your quasi-PG who would rather Jack it up, & Miller as your Cam Thomas bucket getter.

Dang, I can’t believe they are going to run a similar offense to last season that was only 6th in the country in PPG and 10th in the country in efficiency.

I think the defensive improvement will help offset the 3 pt % somewhat. Will be a fun team to watch next year!

You are just being a little dramatic about the 3 point shot. Of course any team would like to shoot the 3 well or better than they did the year before.

Bottom line...Wade's teams have proven you don't have to either shoot a high volume of 3's per game or shoot over 35% as a team to win games.

In fact, LSU's best team that went 16-2 in the league only shot 31.9% as a team from 3.

As I said...lots of ways to win basketball games. You just have to make up for a deficiency by being really good in other areas.

I'd rather see LSU play better defense and rebound the ball better defensively myself. That would make much more of a + impact than making 1 more 3 point shot per game.

Why do I say 1 more shot? Because if you took 25 3 point shots in a game the difference between a 32% shooting team and a 36.6% shooting team is only 1 more made 3 per game.

Give me better defensive rebounding and more steals like the '18-19 team.

Do you at least understand why the efficiency was high, & what it was weighted by?

Yea I do understand that. Thanks for checking!

I get you might not like the style of basketball, but the offense is still very efficient and has won us a lot of games. Improvement on defense is what takes us to the next level. The offense is just fine.

Oh you can win games no doubt. But you aren’t beating teams like Gonzaga & Baylor

A month ago we were wondering how we were gonna score 60/game.

I'd say Wade has remarkably improved our offense in that span. Baby steps I guess.

We've been one of the nation's best 2 point FG% for a few years under Wade, and always in the Top 20% or so of all teams.

So despite the fact we've never been more than above average from 3, the 2 point production has really been a big part of the entire offense with getting to the line as well which leads us to having one of the top offenses in the country every year.

I come to read this thread thinking its full of excitement over the probability of a 5-star center committing to this team. And yet, the thread has been hijacked complaining about shooting and 3pt efficiency. Can you people not just smile and smell the roses for 1/2 second around here? for christ sakes

You have a better shot at beating a Baylor or Gonzaga by playing better defense and rebounding than making 1-2 more shots from 3.

Baylor played really well and hit 10 3's vs Gonzaga, but IMO it was their superior athleticism and quickness that surprised me. This helped them out-rebound the Zags 38-22. They also had 8 steals and 18 assists.

Really damn impressive performance.

Basketball is pretty basic when you break it down. LSU, as Wade has constructed the team recently, is not beating teams that are equally as athletic, but create easier, higher percentage shots like Gonzaga & Baylor both did this year.

The way LSU plays is conducive to streakiness. You can win a lot games that way with the raw talent Wade recruits. Not sure you can win the game, though.
