How many of those being called for to sign with LSU are SEC quality starting CBs?

Maybe Shand or even Saivion Jones move inside, but that's not ideal.

Actually, I think Shand's position should be DT regardless. And it wasn't just my projection of him to DT. It was either Mike Detillier or another football analyst who expected that move. And as some have pointed out, Savion Jones has put on so much weight that he is probably not an outside lineman either.

But I was told defense doesn’t matter by al the Kiffinsexuals on this board. After all, if they want Kiffin as head coach they obviously believe defense isn’t important. (Because that’s obviously what Kiffin thinks)

You could have 40 of them back there but if hardly any of them are the quality you need, what good is that?

Once again, the quality of a guy as a TR FR or SEC play is not the same as the quality of the same player with experience. I assume you talking CBs and Ss, not DL. I saw good talent in the secondary the 2nd half of the season. Zy Alexander (first time at an SEC school) for example looked like a completely different player as he learned to look back for the ball. Brian Kelly specifically called that out in one of his postgame media sessions. Toviano improved too. Stamps apparently was happened by multiple injuries as he stated which required surgery related to one postseason. You are assuming they are not quality to begin with...I disagree with that.

What in the world have you been watching? Precisely zero of the CBs you listed have proven that they are SEC starter quality CBs--even below average starter quality. You think PJ Woodland is going to step in as a true freshman and be a difference maker?

First, Alexander has proven to me he is an SEC caliber starting CB...before he got injured in the Army game. Once again, Kelly even mentioned him becoming much better looking back for the ball. He pretty much always had tight coverage but worthless if you don't know where the ball is. Toviano looked good to me also as he played more. I just mentioned a Woodland as an example. Mike Detillier mentioned Causey in a Q&A session with DandyDobn the other day as a TR FR contributor

Assuming that McKinley signs as expected, we currently have a grand total of FOUR interior DL on our roster

We took different math classes. I count a minimum of 6. Lee, Washington, McKinley, Guillory, Johnson, and Shand. Paris Shand will move to DT...bank it. And he is a good player whether you or some others think that or not. And I'm not including maybe a S Jones move. As I said, I would want one more DT and wouldn't turn down a 2nd, but the second is not a must IMO...just a nice to have.

We need one starter that can come in and play. Of the others here they can coach up a few and rotate.

We legit need bodies at DT. If we play 4 down lineman you have to have 4 interior guys who can spell each other. The odds are someone will get banged up so you need 5/6.

Not responding to you precisely but in a similar vein maybe. If you believe the Chicken Littles on this forum, LSU's defense on the DL and the secondary is a dumpster fire. So here is my question to the doomsayers. Why in the hell did The Athletic site which is pretty well respected BTW just predict LSU to go 12-0 in 2024. If the LSU defense is supposedly so depleted or untalented as some of these posters claim, then one of 2 things must be true:
1) TheAthletic prediction is full of crap
2) LSU is going to reap in an unbelievable haul of defensive studs in the next few months

I tend to believe that some of these posters that are calling to sign every CB, S, or DT with a pulse are simply not evaluating the defense properly.

Not sure why you think Kiffin feels defense isn’t important. Signed 11 from transfer portal on defense (almost all from SEC) and in on another one from Bama

As I believe some here that think every defensive player on LSU roster with a pulse is championship caliber are simply not evaluating the defense properly.

Give me the NFL first rounders that LSU defense is accustomed to

As hard as I was on Sage Ryan, he finished the season as our best cover DB. Not that it is great, but he was night and day. He got beat once in the last game unlike 5 times or more in the beginning of the season.

He has nice size and physicality and has good speed. This new staff will teach him where to be and how to react. I think he has the potential to be the comeback player of the year on the team and top 3 in the SEC.

Because he is a defensive end. If he moves off that position it wouldnt be to DT anyways.

Out of his own mouth, he's a strong-side DE, and he doesn't have the frame to carry the weight he would need to be as an interior lineman.

Reliford will never play DT.

Call me when one of his teams has a decent defense.

Thanks for playing. He’s a failure of a head coach. But it’s good to know you are one of the Kiffinsexuals

I don’t consider finishing 9th in the country at freaking Ole Miss (and beating us) a failure but do you

I think Reliford is the best DL LSU has signed/committed this class. But the talk on this thread has been more about DT. He has said and coaches have told him he is remain an EDGE position guy.

You might have had the TV set on, but you were snoring at the time the LSU game was on.
