Miles was a little younger?

He won a title in 2007. shite Crowton was even the OC. That alone should show the program is capable under Miles.

It was improvement from 2008. Also UF went 5-3 in 2007 with Jesus at QB. It ain't that bad. We won a conference title after going 5-3 in the SEC last decade.

To answer the o.p. question. no. Miles will save his own job due to the performance on the field.

I see this being a very good year. One that will exceed most, (the negative element of the fan base and media), expectations.

I can't wait for this season more than most. all the negativity surrounding the program and our coach has been at all time high. I know in my heart and mind this season is going to make a lot of people look silly.

due to a very good season, recruiting will be as good as any previous year and this ball will only continue to roll. i'm sure miles bashing will continue because some just hate. however, another good season, a great recruiting class, this program will be as solid long term as any other program in the country.

If Les gets past 2010, my guess is he'll be here much longer than 1 year.

the only thing that saves Les is if he gets alot of wins. If we start out with a couple early losses and the offense is still really bad. He'll try to save his butt and replace.
Gonzales for crowton & Wilkerson for Stud.

This is about where I am too. A lot of crow to be served in the rant when this season is over. Of course one game his socks won't match or something and all hell will break loose.

what are y'all expecting this year? Nothing less than winning the West would have ppl eating crow here. If he can do that, I'll gladly line up for mine.

Agreed. Especially with our hard arse schedule. I'm not expecting a amazing season this year. I'd be happy with 3 losses and a good bowl game win.

I think UNC is going to be a trigger of how our season goes. LSU loses that game, we're in trouble confidence wise. We win, LSU will be rolling with confidence. UNC is a GREAT game to gain confidence back into our offense.

He already has replaced Crowton with Gonzales and Stud with Wilkerson. You could see in the spring game the difference that Wilkerson has had on the O-Line. The O-line was the major problem last year. Gonzales will help improve the passing game.

Cash, the ~22 million number is correct.

Then why did we get in a bidding war with Memphis to keep Stud here?

Financials aside,we have the second best program in the SEC West, however we clearly do not have the second best coach. Other teams in the SEC have found a way to surpass our coaching talent since 2007...We clearly have better talent than most...so is it fair to our talent pool not match it with coaching??

Miles had a five year contract for 3.7 mil per guaranteed at the end of 2007.

-at the end of 2008 it was not rolled over, so he was down to a four year contract

-as far as I know it has not yet been rolled over after last season, if this holds he is down to three years

-if he shits the bed in 2010 that is another year off and by dec of 2010 he will be down to two years.

Two years at 3.7 mil is a 7.4 mil buyout that is payable over five years. Anything he makes coaching else where during the five year period comes off of the pay out, so the 7.4 mil would likely be reduced more.

Also, buyouts are typically negotiated to a reduced figure for various reasons. So once again Miles payout after next season would be likely be less than 7.4.

As for the assistants, most have three year deals which is rolled over at the discretion of the HC. At the end of the 2010 season they would all at most be down to two year deals.

What is our assistant pay roll? two or three mil? For argument sakes lets say thee mil. If there entire contract is guaranteed that would be another six mil. However, it is very doubtful the assistants entire salary is guaranteed.

Once again the typical negotiated buyout scenario plays out here also.

So worst case scenario at the end of next season the figure to shite can the entire staff is around 10 mil, payable over five years.

This is from my high ranking source.

He "replaced" his ridiculously over-paid OC w/ a guy who's never been one? so esentially he's just wasting the half million plus he's paying Crowton, great move. Then he also "replaced" the OL coach w/ a Grad Asst?

you can't tell much from the spring game either way b/c the DL was piecemeal and the LBs were w/o their best player.

I think people on this board are just fricking retarded. Miles is a damn good coach and if everyone would take their head out of therie azz they would see that. The man can recruit and coach (just horrible at time management). You have to think guy all but two years we aruably had the best coach in the NCAA next to Pete Carroll think about Miles firt 3 seasons were no more than 2 loses a year and a national title and we should be glad we have a coach that wants to stick up for LSU and not leave beacsue Satan sure did. To tell you the truth every coach has his downfall especially when you lose big time asst (Jimbo, Bo pelini..) I mean the man is doing the best he can and the funny thing is after we won the National title in 03 who can blame Satan for leaving because he knew the LSU fan base would demand that year in and year. So, if you all want to keep a damn strong football team you better start standing beind a damn strong coach. Oo and Les not forget that if you are pulling for Chuckie to be the next coach if remember he was fired for the dame reason you all want Miles fired and he was not at all a people person. So try to get top recruits then. LSU forever
