Hard to argue with his thinking in that video. Players should be paid for services through sponsorships: Commercials billboards, etc. and a portion of their jersey sales

Shaq is a pretty savvy businessman that's smart with his money too. Only way he donates is if there's some form of benefit for him too i.e taxes

Shaq is 100% accurate and on point with what he said.

I agree, and Shaq is not responsible for why our basketball program is terrible.

This is also why our program isn't good.

A better question is, do you donate for NIL?

I can't imagine many former players would want to donate to individual recruits. They most likely just donate to the university for facilities

Troy Aikman talked about a donation he made for a UCLA player who didn’t play a down and transferred after one season. Said he’d never do it again.

From what I understand NIL has to be cleared by a third party review so people can’t just contribute to NIL. Shaq does own some companies and could pay LSU players for their NIL in advertisements.

Have no idea if Shaq is involved in nil

He’s given back to lsu but usually keeps it on the down low about what for and amount
He already said he’s willing to donate for new arena in some capacity so we shall see

Some do to the actual program or facilities.

I can fully see why a former player that did not get paid to play would have zero desire to get involved with the NIL game of individual player recruitments.

Yea, I’m not shelling out millions of my money to some unloyal entitled kid that is only at the school for the money and will leave the moment something goes slightly wrong or someone else offers him a few hundred more to play for them. I don’t blame Troy one bit. I’d get burnt out on that real quick.

You rarely hear of the ex players turned NFL stars donating. Not sure if they do so quietly or refrain. Or are they prohibited as current nfl players? Chase, burrow, JJefferson,do any of them contribute? Genuinely curious.

Tyrann donated a ton.

Honestly it'd be helpful but you see them donating and spending time with charities for children which is obviously a better cause but the marketing and recruiting that LSU gets to use because or that Burrow, Jefferson and Chase combo has to be valued in the tens of millions

Former athletes are generally doing pretty well financially….but they aren’t billionaires with top-rated football players commanding several million apiece, most former athletes couldn’t touch that.

That would 100% be on Woodward's terrible choice of McMahon to replace WW.

Golden was available too, but Florida grabbed him first. (National Championship in YEAR 3 for the Gators)

It doesn't take long to renovate-reconstruct a basketball program with the right coach in place!

It's thoroughly reading all these posts from the "Rant Cheerleader Clique" defending McHallman. He's totally IOHH and the MA's defend him anyway, but that's their MO........

IOHH = In Over His Head
MA = Mediocrity Acceptor
MO = Modus Operandi (Standard Operating Procedure)

I don't defend Woodward much, but this is said with the benefit of hindsight. At the time, there was a very valid argument that McMahon had the better resume. A resume that included McMahon beating Golden in the NCAA Tournament just a week prior. The problem is Woodward didn't look beyond the resume to see if McMahon was a "fit" at LSU in this new era of CBB. It became clearly pretty quickly that he wasn't .

As for Shaq being a donor, I'm sure he like most guys with a lot of money. If you want them to donate to your program, go out and build a relationship with them. McMahon has never wanted to do that. At best, he's tried to "outsource" it to David Patrick.

Look at Curt Cignetti. Mark Cuban wasn't an Indiana mega-donor before Cignetti arrived. But Cignetti was smart enough to realize he (a) needing NIL funding and (b) Indiana had a very wealthy alum who obviously liked sports and was someone not shy about investing. Cignetti built a relationship with him. The look at Lane Kiffin. He's speaking at BR area business events. He's hanging out with a 22 year old LSU alum whose family is extremely wealthy and is a big sports donor. Kiffin isn't doing that because he likes speaking in ballrooms or hanging out socially with guys 1/2 his age. He's doing it to build the relationships necessary to fund his program. Shaq is not going to give LSU basketball money "just because": But he might if the HC cultivates a relationship with him.
