Does anybody know anything about Matthew Fobbs-White from Neville?

6-2, 225-pound edge rusher.
I just watched his film.
There has to be something wrong with him like grades or something. Otherwise here's a kid who's quick on the edge and likes to hit people probably more than it's healthy to.

Appears he decommitted from ULL in November.

I’m right here and don’t hear a lot about him like usually coming from Neville, such as Will C, Heard, Allen,- I don’t know exactly what it is Good player but it seems like TCU, Baylor type not a lot of smoke from the SEC (LSU Bama). Can’t put my finger on it, but I have heard nothing about grades, he was a good player solid but not a game changing playmaker that jumps off the screen.

WoW!! Dude has a motor and looks like he enjoys punishing the ball carrier.
If I had to critique, I would say he seems a touch on the small side, but not much and could be overlooked. Seems to lack the top end speed to be a LB, but plenty of juice to come off of the edge

Dude is a player. He seems like he’s all over the field.
I like that Kam Franklin kid from Oak Grove as well. He just makes things happen on Off, Def and ST. Ok St got a good one.

He seems like the guy you would bring in at Jack linebacker as depth behind Jaxon Howard.
So he'd redshirt and you'd try to get him up to 6-2 or 6-3 and 240-245, which is just a little smaller than Ojulari is.
Instincts look good, he's pretty sudden. He's definitely mean as hell. I wouldn't think he shows up as lightning fast in the 40, so maybe that's a little limiting and he might not be a guy who covers running backs or tight ends particularly well.
But the point here is he's a developmental and depth guy that it makes a ton of sense to bring in in a year like this when you don't have a signing class limit. If he comes in and pans out, great - he's probably behind Howard for a couple of years and then he'd take over and start as a 4th year junior and 5th year senior. If not, then he goes in the portal and he ends up at Southern Miss or UL-Monroe or Tech or somewhere and we recruit somebody else.
The point is you at least could get some depth out of a guy like this and he would be more useful to the scout team than some walkon you'd have.
We're going to need to sign 40 guys to fill up the 85-man roster, and if you listen to Kelly he's saying he'd rather get back to signing freshmen and developing them rather than having to blow up the portal year in and year out. And we've so far had a lot less engagement with the portal than people thought.
I don't know if it's Fobbs-White. But clearly we're going to need to take one more high school edge rusher and he looks like an option. Maybe Ashley Williams from Zachary is more what we want, or maybe TaDerius Collins from Northwood in Shreveport is a better get (though I like Collins as a kid you'd bulk up and play inside a la what we did with Bennie Logan a decade or so ago).
The other thing is this - we've only got like five official visits left under the 56 the NCAA allows per cycle. What that means is you really do want to work the in-state kids to fill up the back half of your signing class, because they don't need an official visit. They can drive down and get the full treatment, more or less, on an unofficial visit.

Looks like he’s committing to Tulane tonight

Is he related to Broderick Fobbs?

I don’t know. The same thought crossed my mind when I made the post.

It doesn't seem like Transfers visits would be included in the 56 Official Recruiting Visits. Is that the case?
Eta: nm. Can't be. There's visits after Spring Practice.

Fobbs-White is a great player. The biggest problem for offenses on the Neville Defense. (Coaches had to scheme against him.) His only downside is that he isn't huge. But he plays like he is. Quick as all get out and got a ton of sacks last year. Neville's most dominant defensive player (on a very good defense.)

Not sure you’ll ever see a harder hit in high school than that one. I’m not sure if he can play for LSU, but very surprised he’s not getting offers from more schools.

THE THING WITH THE PORTAL IS THAT LSU COUld sign him as a developmental player or let him sign with a Tulane or ULL type school and wait to see how he develops there, then offer him at a later date
