This is part of a post from Good Times. Although it doesn't answer the question I posed a few minutes ago on this thread, it is probably one of the more reasonable guesses about what happened, especially after reading what DMitch posted earlier in the day.

quote:

Until we get the facts, here's my interpretation of the events. The one and done by DB required enough reps to impress the scouts. DB and Randle are "close enough" to care about the other. Randle said all along that he had not decided on his school. I believe he would have picked OU, had DB signed with LSU. With DB confirming(truthfully?) that LSU was solid, Randle started to explain the reasoning behind his choice of OU thru his dad. It was not about fear of competition, but to help DB get his reps, since RR would have cut into DB's reps. Once Miles learned of the Randle statements, he was forced to verify(strongly) about DB's intentions and found that DB had either switched or was considering Aub because of more opportunity to prove himself. Miles pulled his offer. That settled RR's decision to sign with LSU.

didn't dmitch say that as of the night before his brother was NOT going to LSU? I must be still missing something.

I think he said not 100% and we need to brace for another selection. I also do not think we have 100% of the story. Not sure if I want it.

I'm not sure any of the parties really cared how Les Miles would come out looking in all of this..he's taking the brunt of it in alot of the media and with some fans.

This makes sense, but the Randle's could have picked up the phone at any time in lieu of going over the radio.

This is generous. You just said Randle confirmed Benton to LSU. If Benton had comitted to Auburn, there would be no need to pull the offer. Seems like more comunication was needed.

Need more info.

I'm not sure he ever gave a time frame. He said there was a point when RR wasn't going to LSU.

And he said he decided for sure the night before.

But I don't think he ever flat out said, "the night before it wasn't LSU."

Hey Dan, can you summarize in a good length post of your conclusions?

Thanks

I just want to know how it went down

Ha, anything I could tell you would be speculation through putting pieces together from the few different places I've read about it.

And that's all in that block quote that's copied in this thread a few times.

This seems to fit nicely with what dmitch said...
