I find it very surprising that someone would voluntarily take the brunt of the criticism for something that Benton wanted to do, just to protect him. If that theory is correct, he essentially wanted the fans to think he was the controlling father and D'Lo was the victim in this case, and it seems like it clearly worked based on fan reaction.

From everything I've read and seen about the family is that they are all class (dmith included). So this wouldn't surprise me at all.

Of course, we though JJ and LG were all class too... but a Tiger will always show it's true stripes (no pun intended). Bottom line, if this all played out like it seems to have, the papa Randle's actions are admirable and LG's weren't because of how they both handled themselves.

Or, maybe he didn't "pull" it at all, just wanted to further aid Benton in his decision and stand by the Randles.

This is what I was thinking Dan, but we may never know.

Here's what I've gathered from Randle's interview and other boards.

A non-LSU board said that it became apparent to the Randle's that Benton did not want to go to LSU. So... Randle's pops went on the radio in some ways to lessen the blow of him wanting to leave (because they are friends).

Benton follows suit by doing what everyone thought was unthinkable (switching) and Randle falls in line picking LSU.

Add to that the Benton probably knew Randle would be first in line and I think that's why he was looking elsewhere

didn't dmitch say that as of the night before his brother was NOT going to LSU? I must be still missing something.

I agree. I'm not saying that just because dmitch is around. Who's to say that Benton isnt close to the dad? If what Dan posted is 100%, all the dad was doing is protecting the kid from the backlash. It worked to perfection.

Just want to thank you guys for clearing this situation up for me. I was confused as to what all had happened and this explanation has helped.

pretty fascinating - the whole process. Would make an excellent book. Has anyone done such a book before regarding recruiting and all the behind the scenes stuff?

Maybe you should look into it, Dmitch, since you experienced much of it firsthand.

I remember seeing that and was wondering the same thing. The whole situation is just curious. None of it really matters since randle is a tiger now. Just the way the events unfolded and the lack of information is making everyone, including myself, very curious.

Very selfless move though, on his part. Hopefully, Urban Liar and other coaches would not try to take advantage of the situation in the future.

It is surprising to me as well, but if this is essentially the truth then all parties come out smelling like roses. Assuming that this is the truth, then I'm sorry for my initial reaction.

seem like ER is like Mike Connely Sr, and actually cares about Benton the person and not Benton the WR.

so Bradshaw is upset with Benton correct?

Bailed on LSU, he didn't like

The Randle thing and depth was a act to shed Benton the fall of LSU fans..?

The one part of the story that doesn't add up is why Randle's father was talking about how the LSU coaches were misleading about how Benton and Randle would not compete against each other.

If he was only trying to protect Benton, why go that far?

Time to move on..let us dream of the 3 WR set with Randle,Tolliver and Lafell. That is scary!

So what exactly was Miles "hard fast decision". Sounds like he had no decision at all. It was all ready a done deal.

Hey Dan, can you summarize in a good length post of your conclusions?

Thanks

I just want to know how it went down
