so, dmitch, if you can share, who came in second for Rueben? just curious about his thought process on the decision when it came down to it

i was going to start a new thread, but it's so quiet here without all the idiots bashing Benton.

quote:

Here's what I've gathered from Randle's interview and other boards.

A non-LSU board said that it became apparent to the Randle's that Benton did not want to go to LSU. So... Randle's pops went on the radio in some ways to lessen the blow of him wanting to leave (because they are friends).

Benton follows suit by doing what everyone thought was unthinkable (switching) and Randle falls in line picking LSU.

Add to that the Benton probably knew Randle would be first in line and I think that's why he was looking elsewhere.

which makes complete sense to me considering, I'm sure that the randle's have known Benton a long time and wanted to protect him somehow.

If you had to think of something quick, then that was a pretty good way of doing it.

thanks, that worked

one question: scanning your posts i saw that you also commented that miles was classless for pulling benton's scholly. based on your knowledge of the situation, that seems out of context.

not being an arse, just found it confusing

Me too on the miles thing. Was he in on this or did he actually pull the scholarship?

I dont think Miles found out untill monday or tuesday from what I gather. Then Tuesday he pulled it knowing all the info that he had.

I find it very surprising that someone would voluntarily take the brunt of the criticism for something that Benton wanted to do, just to protect him. If that theory is correct, he essentially wanted the fans to think he was the controlling father and D'Lo was the victim in this case, and it seems like it clearly worked based on fan reaction.

Very selfless move though, on his part. Hopefully, Urban Liar and other coaches would not try to take advantage of the situation in the future.

I posted this theory before the news came out that we "pulled the offer."

I can never condone pulling offers for any kid that we have offered unless they do something to deserve it (i.e. what Luther Davis pulled a couple years ago).

In this case, now that more info. is rising to the surface, I don't think Miles pulled the offer to land Randle, so no I don't think it was classless.

It seems Miles pulled the offer because Benton was deceiving him. Or, maybe he didn't "pull" it at all, just wanted to further aid Benton in his decision and stand by the Randles.

I agree with that entirely. But to go so far to help out one of your kid's friends....wow.

Again, I just hope this situation isn't manipulated in the future by other coaches.
