DL should be the priority for this class.

Only having 1 onboard at this point is horrifying. I wouldn't give a crap if we filled the rest of the class with quality DL / OLB guys.

Pretty sure we are getting a plethora of them in next class.

Hopefully we do pull Sopsher.

Rashard isn't going Pro. I don't see him on any mock drafts as of yet that would encourage him to go early. Fehoko also should return. Logan obviously and Alexander. Would like to see Shevlin give a shite finally and be the dominant prospect he once was. Ferrell and others will return also.

But next year is paramount to filling as many spots as possible as we will be counting on many freshmen to contribute.

We still return everyone for next season and have a lot of youth already.

That's what you don't want though is freshman playing DL or having to play DL. They aren't in shape to play in the SEC right away. It takes a year to be fully ready.

I would have to agree with him. If LSU wants to move forward we need to start landing 5* type of talent once they develop. So a 4* guy a year into the program would play like a true 5* in the middle or end of the season. Yea we could get lucky and we land a couple that's ready to play right away but why take that chance. If we don't get HS guys start looking into JUCO and transfers.

I'd also say we need another OT to be completely good to go. Idk man I'd be going pretty damn hard after at least 3 and not even count on Sop but leave a spot if he wants in. I'd pass on the bro at this point. All signs are pointing in another direction right now. I was hopeful but not so much after he skipped out on our big game with GA. I'd just start actively recruiting other guys. Not just bodies but trying to flip others. The MS guys and some Texas guys. Maybe look deep into LA for some under the radar types that are just mean players but aren't being looked at.

They have to have at least 2 or 3 around the region no one is really looking at or we can flip from somewhere. I just think the DL and OL is way too important. It's the difference in winning and losing the big games for sure. We have talent at every other position committed except DL. It's the strangest thing even though we have proven to be a top developing school in these areas. Need a big rushing DE and 2 DTs and maybe another big NT.

While it would be great to have more D-Linemen committed, "horrifying" is way over the top. We are still 3 1/2 months away from signing day.

It happens pretty much every recruiting class. One position or the other seems to be under-represented at Thanksgiving, and folks start chirping their doom-and-gloom. But magically, LSU pulls one or two guys late that ends up making that position group to be a strength.

It is great to discuss "current status" with recruiting. We all do it. But never panic in mid-October. Not if you are a recruiting monster like LSU.

WRONG! Alot of the top DLineman could be signing in Dec 2018.

That leaves little time for Ed O and LSU finding quality Dlineman. If they miss on the kid out Amite filling Dline with Projects is not the Answer. You are seeing the results of this now. No true freshman are adding starting depth to the current DLine and we dont know what to expect from this current freshman class of Dlineman. Add in more projects from this years Dl recruiting class than LSU could be looking like Ark/USCe in a year or two on the dline. ED/meatball needs to get there butts moving and start competing for the big dogs that can come in as true freshman and add a little depth to the starting rotation like R. lawerence/ ed alexander did as true freshman.

Umm, last cycle. Totally whiffed on qb and cb. There were concerns that ended up being right.

I agree. OL and DL are usually the hardest positions to transition to immediately from High School especially going to the SEC West. Unless you are pulling elite 5 stars(which still don't always work out)it takes these guys at least a couple years to get on the field and be productive. It is an absolute must to get at least 4 or 5 of them each in each class

And they went out and got Burrow and now have a bunch of DBs for this class, I mean, they have addressed what they needed to there, it may have come a little later, but they obviously didnt ignore it.

Down year in-state for DL outside Sopsher.
What's a bit frustrating is the state of Mississippi is loaded with DL with Pickering, Handy, Young, Moore, Hall and Gordon.
Ole Miss is a complete non-factor given the probation with all of these guys. State will inevitably get a couple, but Auburn is already sitting with 2 commitments from Mississippi DL and Alabama has Young. LSU supposedly is going to sneak in and get Pickering, maybe, but I doubt it.

Meatball is from Amory, Mississippi, played JUCO ball in Mississippi before LSU. You'd think or hope he'd have some contacts in the state? I know in the past Mississippi has been a landmine, but with Ole Miss at least temporarily out of the picture for these guys given NCAA issues, this would be the year to swipe at least one. Auburn is.

I hate to say it but I think he is gone. I am just following the trend of LSU players that shouldn't leave but do.

Yeah. Remember earlier in this recruiting cycle they were all talking Sip2Boot? Don't hear too much of that little catch phrase anymore, do we?

Recruiting isn't about the next year on the field.

At some positions it is and at some positions it's not. With DL and OL it is almost always NOT about the next year. That's the problem with all these people saying we need to bring in a 5* that can play right away. These guys pretty much don't exist with few exceptions. DL and OL are developmental positions.

Quarterback is a developmental position. Thankfully (hopefully) we have Burrow for another year after this one. And there isn't a single quarterback recruit from last year that I would take over Burrow, so in my opinion, the staff hit a grand slam as far as QB recruiting goes last year.

Defensive back is not usually a developmental position. It is very common for freshmen to come in and contribute immediately. Yes, we really could have used Surtain or Goodrich last year, but we were able to pick up a solid contributor for this year (Terrance Alexander), we have a great class coming in next year, and we have enough good players on the roster who are coming back for it to not be an area of concern next year.

He isn't even listed as a top 4 round pick. Would be stupid. Unless he doesn't think he can raise his stock.

Otherwise a late round and more than likely a FA deal post draft, which he will prove his worth.

What's the anticipation with Nelson Jenkins? He's obviously a 100% redshirt this season. Not sure if its a weight, strength and/or ability issue at this point in his young career? Certainly he's not stuck behind a lot of depth. Not knocking the kid. Was made clear when he signed he was a project. Just not clear whether the issue was a size/strength or ability issue that needed development? Or is he recuperating from a high school injury?

He did get injured last year I believe and tore his ACL.

I saw him play against Ouachita at Ouachita last year and he was an animal and physical as heck.

He is a player. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.
