Let the kids take their visits and chose where they want to go. If they end up coming to LSU then I'll be thrilled. If they decide to go somewhere else then so be it, it's their decision and they have to live with it for better or worse. Hell if I was a recruit I would want to go take all my visits and decide what is best for me. If they don't want to come to LSU then we will just get somebody that WANTS to come here and help the Tigers win.
Overall you people need to grow the frick up and act like adults and let people live their own life and make their own decisions.
But if a LA guy goes to Bama then shame on you!

I'll be optimistic with him just wanting to take visits. I don't get the leaving after we stood by him with his injury but I wouldn't put it past today's generation.

Maybe he wants the free trip to Los Angeles with his teammates and he wants to be courted and wined and dined and he thinks that if he is committed to LSU, then he won't get the red carpet treatment?
These are my thoughts as well. He's been injured and wants to have the experience he's hearing his teammates talk about. Nothing wrong with that.

There are still tons of "alleged" LSU fans that bad mouth and degrade our staff on a daily basis.
These recruits are still subjected to that on a daily basis.
During the Auburn/FSU game I was with a group of fans and there were 2 guys bad mouthing Les Miles every 5 minutes. Pathetic
This is poison to teenagers that look up to some of these adults. If it happens here it happens everywhere.
If you hate the coach then at least hold back your anger for the sake of the program, in the end LSU loses here.
This is my opinion and thank goodness LF and the other recruits are strong minded enough not to buy into this immaturity and nonsense by bandwagon fans...
Good post. It's a shame it something like this has to be repeated on here... though, without fail, the worst offenders don't or aren't capable of heeding such advice.
I generally like that the board tends to be open to diverse opinions unlike other boards (for other schools) where any dissenting opinion is whacked and people get banned for the slightest perceived assault on the team. But I'm starting to think the tolerance is maybe a little too high here.
It's one thing to critique a player or a coach, to compare them to others and say some are better or worse; or to criticize specific decisions. That's the nature of discussion and it's fine to have an opinion and this is a great place to share it. But some posters on here are more hateful than an old, bitter, spurned woman. They really don't know what's going on, become emotional, then assume their opinion is fact and launch personal attacks on coaches and prospective players. This type of input doesn't add anything to the conversation that is worth hearing and does add a negative stigma. I know some will say, "it happens everywhere", which is at least partially true, but when I see it on other boards, it's usually like, "can't believe so and so chose that armpit, LSU" or "LSU must've bought them." I don't see nearly as much sentiment that the player who changed their mind is suddenly a liar, lied to the staff, the staff is incompetent because they couldn't keep the player committed... all of which are repeated here almost every time it doesn't mutually work out between LSU and a La. recruit.
As for Godchaux, I hope he sticks it out, gets healthy and becomes a solid contributor at LSU with a chance to play in the pros. If he changes his mind and goes elsewhere, it'll suck, but I won't disparage the kid. It's his life and his choice.
eta: I type slow, so the last part of my post appears irrelevant now based on the last 2 pages... but the idea in general still stands... the hateful ones were starting to crawl out from their holes earlier in the thread.

the board's concern is that we stood by him after his injury and to spring this up now (at this late date in recruiting) is disheartening at least. he was not playing football so why not take visits in nov. dec. thats all i'm saying.

@Sheadixon: Davon Godchaux tells me he is still committed to #LSU, but will see about making other visits. More at @Geaux247
everyone can calm down now.
I don't think that changes anything.
If he's "opening up his recruitment" so that he ""makes sure he picks the right school", there is no commitment.

This situation is very hard to understand, considering that LSU stood by the young man after this injury, when others took off. HOWEVER....
this is what you get when you put all of your eggs in one basket (LA recruits) and go deep into January with a quarter of your class still to fill. Other posters have agreed, in order to mollify the majority of Tiger Boosters who believe The Fence is the most important thing, we mollycoddle LA recruits to the detriment of not offering OOS recruits. That puts LSU's recruiting fate squarely in the hands of these LA players. Then you get something like 1/2/14, and now this.....
I've said over and over, a program like Bama offers almost double the amt of players we offer - and from almost every state. They understand they are not getting - and also not want - every single player from Alabama. The players they do want from Alabama better get on board early or their commits won't be accepted, because there are 20 other players who WANT that scholarship.
LSU, on the other hand, is so focused with protecting The Fence, that the irony is it came back to bite them hard, and looks to result in The Fence not only being knocked down, but melted up and carted away. This may or may not be what the coaches want again.
We just really need to learn a basic economics lesson - the more demand, the higher the price. With more offers, there will be more incentives for the players to claim their spot early. Players like Davon certainly have every right to make sure they are making the correct decision - but on the other hand LSU has the right to make sure they can fill up their class. So when this happens next year, LSU can say, fine, but we have this guy who is ready to take your scholarship RIGHT NOW and he's equal or better to you. But we honored your offer because your are a Louisianian, so if you want to explore, go right ahead, because if you step foot on any other campus, your offer is rescinded.
That's not mean, that's just universities and players holding each other accountable. A player needs to visit elsewhere BEFORE he commits, and the universities need to have many other players ready to step in.
But Davon is only doing this because LSU doesn't have a firm Plan B - at least from what I'd reading.
