LSU went after Cade York and got him. Then Nathan Dibert was rated in the top kickers in the country. I understand how you find these kids. What I don't know is how you find a Damian Ramos.

Ramos was not rated and he could have been an accident to see him while at St Pauls in Baltimore recruiting position players. I did read an article about Chris Sailer Kicking (I guess this is a kicking school/camp) had him rated 5 star out of 6 stars.

Does LSU have a coach dedicated to finding these unrated special team skill players? Or do they hire a service to inform them of these talented players that are not able to go to get noticed for whatever reason. I am not saying people did not know about Ramos. I am just saying that the Dibert kid was top 5 and did not make the starting lineup and Ramos did after a redshirt year and York leaving for the NFL.

Ramos was just a walk-on that backed up Cade York last year if I'm not mistaken. I don't believe there is much to it other than a kid wanting to make the LSU football team. Apparently he thought he had the skills and he was right. He made the team.

I don't know if Nathan Dibert knew Ramos was on the team and/or would be competition.

There were 580+ kids at my son’s last ranking camp. Being ~ 20-30 for your ranking service isn’t as bad as it sounds. Dibert was ranked really high because he had a great kickoff, and that rating service really puts high regard in that aspect.

The amount of practice a kid gets in college makes it very difficult to earn a spot as a Freshman. Auburn got the #1 kid in the country last year, Evan McPherson’s brother Alex…he was by all regards #1…and he hasn’t seen the field.

Ramos got better at LSU, and probably wasn’t offered a full ride scholarship to begin with. The other kicker Mata was full academic scholarship to start.

Almost every kicker has a coach that handles their recruiting, aside from the rating services…so they’re pitching you to schools and trying to work you in.

Ramos was one of the highest rated kickers at Chris Sailer's camp. There are only two highly ranked kicking camps in the US and college coaches routinely use their opinions when looking for kickers. I think it was McMahon that got the scouting report from Sailer on Ramos.

Ramos was highly rated. He had scholarship offers. He was rated by Chris Sailer as an FBS freshman starter.

Damian Ramos

Sailer rates kickers on a 6 star scale. With 6 stars being P5 freshman year starter and 5 stars being FBS freshman starter.

Ramos was a 5 star.

I’ve seen on Twitter where kids just simply state that they are 5 star kickers (without being rated that way from anywhere)…so I guess getting ahead of them with a 6th star was the next step.

Byrd HS and Parkway HS have kickers that are two of the best in the nation for 2024.

Aeron Burell Parkway

Abram Murray C.E. Byrd HS

Abram’s accuracy and range are unreal. He’s a man-child…pretty sure he could grow a full beard as a freshman in high school.

I saw him hit a 49 yarder, and we found out that the kid from Parkway hit one from 52 the same night.

When you run the best kickers in the country through a few days of field goal charting Abram’s proven to be at the top of the results consistently. Makes finals of most camps and can pretty much win any FG comp he’s in. That pedigree earned him the first offer of his class, Arkansas, and he’s committed to Miami.

Aeron was playing soccer in Europe at 14-15, so he’s obviously a talent. Won the ‘24 kickoff comp at the last ranking camp.
