I don't think it's being unrealistic to expect both of them to be major contributors to the team next year.

Maybe. As you said, Ika is a 4 star. Shelvin was a 5 star at the same position, and he didn’t do jack shite this year. I expect Ika to be the third nose guard on the depth chart. It’s unlikely that he’ll be a major contributor next year, much less make it impossible for folks to run up the middle, which is what I was needling you about.

I’m excited to get both of them. I think Stingly starts game one next year. But he’s on a completely different level than Ika. And Stingly will take his lumps next year, just like Surtain did at Bama.

Stingley will give up a few plays, but not many.

He’s better than Surtain.

I expect Ika to back up Shelvin at NG with Livingston running 3rd. Ika reporting in January is huge for him in regards to getting up to speed for the fall.

To bad you are only partially kidding. Lots of failure hopes on this board.

I don't get why any real LSU fans would expect an outcome where our recruits do not perform up to par. The majority of these kids are either 4 or 5 star athletes. If they meet expectations our win/loss record should reflect that.

Just because we have had a few other highly recruited players fail to meet expectations in the past doesn't mean we are going to have a high percentage of that occuring in the 2019 class.

At this point in time there is no reason to believe that pretty much every kid in the 2019 class will be a contributor for this team in one way or another.

He actually starting coming around the last third of the season. He’s playing more snaps and has gotten a little weight off. If he does his job this offseason, then he should play a big role all of next season.

I wonder how many share my opinion that we saw:
A) enough reps and game time
B) performance in those reps

to be very hopeful about Shelvin in the future.

Now that we don't have Big Ed for the bowl game, we should get a real good look at Shelvin Tuesday.

I just hope Ika is really good but Ngata would be special.

I don’t know, but Shelvin is a huge question mark. Even if Shelvin can play at top speed at NT in 2019 for one quarter of each game, our lack of experienced depth at NT may have us playing Fehoko, Shelvin, Ika, and Sopsher (if he signs with LSU) at NT in 2019! Conditioning, endurance and injury will cause us to play 4 guys there next year.

I believe Drake Nevis received significant snaps his first few games as a freshman and started as that year progressed (LA Tech & Arkansas) if my memory serves me correctly.
