and bypass the 25 new enroller cap? If I recall, if a player signed with you and then left and came back, they didn't count against the 25 scholly limit since they already counted for the school once.

Is that true or was that just if they went JUCO?

Telling us which guys you're thinking about might make this a little more interesting.

Marcel Brooks falls in that category. If this season's eligibility doesn't count, then he should be able to transfer back without it ever showing he played somewhere else.

An athlete only counts once against the initial numbers, so if, say Brooks returns, he wouldn't count the current 25 a second time.

I've been waiting for you to chime in. How sure are you of this? I assumed this was correct, but in reading the rules, I see they specifically address guys transferring back from a 2 year school, but never mention guys transferring back from a 4 year school. The way they specified 2 year school made be doubt my belief that Brooks wouldn't count.

Here is the paragraph I'm referring to.
quote:

15.5.6.3.7 Returning Two-Year Transfer. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete who previously was an initial counter and who transferred to a two-year college shall not be an initial counter upon return to the original institution.

I'm about as sure about this as you can be about anything in that book. It pretty much flows from the definition of the terms. Initial counter is defined as someone who receives countable financial aid for the first time at an institution. It's not your first time if you were already an initial counter and returned.

It's also true of the 25 limit on LOI signings (yes, it's a different limit from initial counter limit). You only count the first time you sign a valid one with a school. So if you sign one that doesn't qualify, while he counts, if he signs with you again after JC, you don't have to count him against the future class.

This rule would be great if LSU could recruit someone like Brooks back. Going to take awhile before we actually hit the depth chart limit considering how paper thin we are on bodies.

If they come back they will only count against the 85 (or 81 in our case). They don't penalize the 25 class.

Marcel and Ika would be welcome "opt-backs."
