A little worried about defensive back recruiting but more specifically CB. We don’t have much depth there and a lot of the guys we do have are upperclassman. We have a few guys committed in this class so far but not really any super high ranked CBs. Also concerned as highly touted instate guys like Jordan Mathews and Derek Williams are looking elsewhere. What are y’all’s opinions on this? Result of Corey Raymond leaving?

We currently lead for 5 star corner Javien Toviano so hopefully we can land him and you can feel a little better…

It's crazy to me that Matthews isn't even considering us given our dire need for more CBs.

He could come here and start receiving significant playing time in his freshman year.

Don't think it's as big a concern as some are making it out to be. LSU looks like they're starting to shift to recruiting more DBs and you always have the transfer portal. They're guaranteed to have some stars in it by the end of this season. Portal recruiting is just as important as HS recruiting now for this reason. It eliminates any roster instability caused by a bust recruiting class.

There will be undoubtedly some portal tampering to get guys that look great on crappy teams or small teams to enter the portal. It's going to be a common theme now. Anyone who looks like an All-American that slipped through the cracks in HS and ended up at some small college is going straight to someone like LSU, Bama, etc.

I don't think so. Our cornerback recruiting hasn't been great for several years now. Without looking, I think we've only landed 2 blue chip corner prospects in the last 6 cycles (Stingley in 2019 and Ricks in 2020) and Raymond had very little to do with landing either of them.

He reminds me a little bit of PP7…I say a “little bit” out of respect.

Y’all think we get Mathews if we end up flipping Collins?

Daylen Austin is the real deal. He will be locking down sec wr one day. Jeremiah Hughes has a lot of upside as well. Super athletic, good build, but just started playing corner.
If we land toviano and grab one more hs/transfer kid then you can sleep well at night knowing our cbs will be legit.

You are right. He lost his 5th star in the last update. Will be a 3 star when he commits to LSU knowing 247.

I do not. Matthews is committing on Aug. 15th to either Texas, Tennessee, or Michigan.

While i agree to a certain point, there is a reason lsu doesn't have a true answer at center and te.

Stamps fielded calls & interest after committing to lsu from Alabama (again), Oregon, and Oklahoma. Kid will have a nice offer list by the time his Sr year is open

Daylen Austin has Bama/uga/usc/ ND/ mich

Jeremiah Hughes has offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Colorado, Oregon State, Pitt, Utah, Washington, Washington State, West Virginia

Star ratings be damned. If we finish our class with whom we have committed, whom they think will commit, and a VERY GOOD LIKELIHOOD , of a flip in the works, it's actually done, though not public yet. The 23 class of Safetys and corners will be one our best hauls in many, many years..There are MANY moving parts behind the scenes that won't see daylight till the 1st signing date. Whether us as fans approve of this method is irrelevant, it is done by design...And until they prove me wrong, we should be VERY EXCITED. The only slightly concerning position group I have some concern with is inside LB. But if we don't have rash of injuries, we will be GOOD, not great there..Although that is a position that can pop up out of nowhere in Senior seasons, as great athletes are tried there and emerge throughout the high school ranks. And if that fails, the portal can obviously work too...Just my thoughts.

Brian Kelly was recruiting Hughes at Notre Dame and his former DB coach is on staff at LSU. It looks like a reach on surface but it’s a long relationship behind the scenes.
