Since LF has not even begun his senior season of high school football, perhaps it is a bit early to tell, though it would be interesting to revisit this thread a few years down the road.

I wonder if Collins was rated as highly coming out of high school as LF? Based on what we know so far, LF seems to be the type that will conduct himself off the field much better than Collins, and most of us certainly hope so.

Just as anyone would have a point if they argued that at least Cecil's loss came in the dome, somewhere St. Aug hasn't been with vastly superior teams than Cecil's Leesville teams.

I'm close to saying Fournette is the best I've seen in Louisiana, but if Lanard was their RB last year instead of Leonard, that's still a Top 10 team in 4A, IMO.

Take Cecil off that Leesville team and they are 5-5, 4-6.

Fournette's stats would be much better if they gave him more carries, but wouldn't you rather them not ride him into the ground before he gets to LSU?

St. Aug can use him how it sees fit. Doesn't change how good Cecil was.

Point of bringing up the numbers was that Cecil was incredibly productive and durable and carried a mediocre team further than it probably should have gone.

It's a given that Fournette is an all-time great. I think the only other back that belongs in this conversation that I can think of is Kevin Faulk. But I do think that in these discussions we tend to have short memories. As soon as LeBron won a ring with the greatest team ever bought, they were already declaring him greater than Jordan. C'mon people.

Not that this is completely analagous, but we are forgetting that a lot of people think of Collins as the greatest talent they've seen at that position for LSU. Between where he played his high school ball and the "long-ago" factor (hard to believe the mid 90s were relatively long ago now), I don't think he gets his due in the comparison.

You missed quite a treat. LF doesn't have to be better on the field than CC was. If he can just be almost as good, I would be happy. Unless he signs with Bama. In that case, I would hope he sucked.

Maybe LF will be great. And I hope it's at LSU. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone here nearly as good as Collins. If I'm a coach and I need 3 yards, I'm going Bo Jackson or Collins on my all time college team. Despite limited playing time it was just clear that he was very, very special.

To me there are 3 running backs that set the standard back in the 80"s Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker and Marcus Dupree. Adrian Peterson is the one that compares to those 3. If Cecil Collins had a full 3 years at lsu I believe he could have been in that elite group of backs. Leonard Fournette appears to have the tools to not only be a heisman contender but be one of the all time great backs in lsu and sec history.

Idk man. Darren McFadden was a damn beast. Best running back in the sec I've seen in a long time. Better then Harvin or Trent Richardson.

I have seen a lot of comparisons with adrian peterson which is amazing but a comparison with the diesel would have me salivating at the prospect of have fournette in purple and gold for the next 2 or 3 years.

3-5 years. He can't leave after 2

McFadden was soft. Still is. Sure, he's fast and shifty, but not a hair on Cecil's arse. Cecil ran through tackles as well as he climbed through windows.
Kevin Faulk became a better RB because of Cecil, too. Made him run tougher.

Not only did Cecil run through tackles, he ran through them without breaking stride. One of the best backs I ever saw.

Unfortunately, I never got to see the diesel in action live. The replays on youtube are just off the charts and it is shame that he never reached his full potential. I really hope fournette comes to Lsu, with talent that is coming in, he should have all kinds of weapons around him and make him a legit heisman candidate.

LF, no shite.......is the best RB to grace our planet since Adrian Peterson. If he stays healthy and plays behind a solid Oline in the NFL he will be in the HOF. I have seen all of his film, and have coached high school running backs for 7 years now. The speed he has not just top end but with burst combined with being 6'2 220lbs isn't fair. He also has vision and understands how to lower his pads and can set up defenders from 15 yards away with angles and change of speed.

The kid is AMAZING...

Coming from someone that got a chance to see him in action in HS, I seriously don't get the CC hype as most do on this site. He played in what 3 SEC games (before being injured) and only a handful of southland conference games before his jump to the pro's. And even in his RC season he was mediocre at best for the dolphins.

Don't get me wrong, the potential was definitely there, he just never proved enough to me personally to be glorified as he is. I give LF the edge. #allin4LF

You're comparing Cecil to a high school junior based on what Cecil did in college and the NFL?

You have to compare apples to apples. And since many here admit to having not seen Cecil at the high school level, I offered the observation that many see him as the most talented back they've seen at LSU only as gauge of how good he must have been as a high school player. Three games as a prop 48 freshman (or sophomore, as the rules were back then) and many proclaim him the most talented they ever saw over the likes of Kevin Faulk, Harvey Williams, Dalton Hilliard, Garry James, etc.

I've seen them both play extensively and it's close. And, I have to add I saw LF in what has probably been his finest hour to date (the STM playoff game last year) and did not see Cecil in his signature game (the ASH game his senior year). And I still am hesitant to give LF the edge.

I do anticipate LF doing things this season that will make me opine that he's the best I've seen. But he hasn't done them yet. What really wins me over with Cecil, again, is the way he carried that team his senior season to great heights.

Collins had the potential to be an all pro had he been sane.
