It has to happen to save cfb.

Makes you wonder what the NCAA is waiting on. It’s obvious to everyone, so why not come out tomorrow with new legislation?
I just don’t get it.

It seems like a mess. A bidding war for mercenaries. You know Matthew's wanted to stay home but couldn't pass on the $$$... I'm really beginning to lose interest in NCAA football. I'm sure come season I'll be glued to the tube. There has to be some rules that are enforceable or this is going to get insane.

Definitely needs some fixes but hard to cap NIL. If you truly are paying a player for his name, image or likeness you can pay anybody anything you want. It will come down to boosters/businesses not getting ROI that will eventually even it out on the lower end players but the top dogs will continue to see more and more money.

NCAA got their nuts cut off by the Govt. At this point only the Govt can put any restrictions on it.....and they won’t

if you limit NIL than it would be another lawsuit

legislation wants everyone that advocated for paying players to sit in their own shite for a while

Cap NIL
You can't do this. The Supreme Court decision that opened the doors for NIL in the first place doesn't allow a restriction like this.
The NCAA can't put restrictions on NIL earnings. A "salary cap" counts as such a restriction. A "salary cap" would be no different from outlawing NIL entirely from a legal perspective. Both are a restriction, and neither are allowed.
The only way that the NCAA can cap earnings is if they agree to treat players as employees. And that's not gonna happen any time soon.

It’s not changing so we better learn to play the game better.

You can't cap NIL. The cat is out of the bag. There has to be some regulations with open pay for play. Competitive balance is what they should strive for much like the NFL and any other professional league. That's what college football is now, a professional league.

Now what the NCAA can do is tighten up how many players a team can sign, not allow back counting and tighten up the transfer portal. Make it harder for teams to cut players and or for players to pick up and transfer.

The problem isn't needing a cap. It's boosters creating fake businesses to pay players. NIL is designed for business owners to pay someone to promote their business. That isn't what is happening. So how do you fix that problem I don't know but this has already been to the supreme court NCAA has little to no control over it.

I can't wait until tax season. The stories will be entertaining.

This makes good sense. Maybe drop it to 20 per class. Leave more guys to spread around to other schools. Make them sit a year. NCAA is pretty limited here overall. This ruling sucks.

Capping the NIL sounds Anti-American. That cap would have to be really high.

I don’t know about a Cap, but I fully support HS recruits not being eligible for NIL until after 1st season on campus. Let them set their NIL worth by performance at the collegiate level.
NIL should not be part of HS recruiting. Nothing wrong with showing current players NIL deals that earned it on the field…but handing NIL deals to HS recruits is ridiculous.

Legit question that’s probably been answered on here and I missed it - do these kids have agents that negotiate the NIL deal for them during their recruitment? What are the logistics of this? Do they get referred to a booster contact by the university? How does this work?

I would add one caveat…or exception: one free transfer, provided you didn’t play a single snap in the most recent football season.
