Can we just stop having a national signing day because it's officially dead!

I never thought in a millions years I would say this, but National Signing Day is officially dead! It's clear that NIL and the transfer portal have officially sucked the life out of National Signing Day!
I live in Alabama so National Signing Day was up there with Christmas and Thanksgiving in terms of level of importance! Employers already knew not a lot of work was going to get done because all the men would be watching their computer screen or on their cell phone looking for who signed and who flipped to another team. Even as an LSU fan, it was exciting, fun and the banter was non-stop.
Today, unfortunately, National Signing Day was like every other day of the week. I work around a large group of Alabama fans and some Auburn fans and not once did anyone bring up NSD. It was more like a funeral than a day of celebration.
I asked one of my Alabama buddies at lunch if Ryan Williams had signed and he nonchalantly said, "I think so, but how long is he going to stay?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but then again, LSU just signed 5-star Dominick Mckinley and I can't say I was all that excited, either. Clearly, NIL and transfer portal have changed college football forever and that really sucks!
RIP NSD! It was fun while it lasted!

There are 2 national signing days now
The first one is bigger than this one as most recruits sign then

It’s still there. It’s just earlier now. LSU signed 99% of their class on the first signing day.

I'm well aware of that, but with NIL and the transfer portal, neither signing day means a lot because players can now jump ship anytime they want with no penalty. It's great you might land a stud player one year, but as soon something happens that they don't like they're gone. Just asked Texas A&M and Alabama fans about that!

National Signing Day does not exist. It is just a virtual term. Today is the inception of the signing period. Nothing more, nothing less.

i get what you are saying, and if you are referring to the NSD that we all grew up with and loved, the one in Feb, then yes, you are correct....
but basically, it's just moved up to ESD, making that the more important, or more "true" signing day.... the portal is what is fricking everything up, majorly...

Have you tried the soccer board? They don't have recruiting or ESD or NSD.
It may be more your speed.

True, the transfer portal has drastically changed college football, and it's likely to get worse when kids are allowed to transfer as many times as they like, without any penalty. That day is likely coming.
Still, LSU has handled it as well as anyone could. Heard was really the only major player we've lost. Where it really hurts most teams is the depth you lose, and that's a major problem for most everyone. Gotta continue to stack top recruiting classes and hope you can hold onto enough of them to have some depth.
In all, I think LSU has done a good job of controlling the outward bound side of the portal.

Once there is a super conference, they will have a national signing day once again, and it will be a televised event. The players will then sign long term contracts and fans will be excited.
Lawsuits will eventually challenge the eligibility rules, allowing players to play for 10-15 years at their university, carrying 3 hours per semester. Some players will opt for a college career instead of the NFL. Ultimately, college players will have more of a sure paycheck in college than the NFL. Then the NFL will seek a partnership with the super conference. Ultimately they’ll merge.
Then the college football we know will be dead. Anyone who mourns the loss will be told they’re old, or behind the times. Too bad for them.

Who is forcing you to watch/participate?

The ESD needs to be moved to the summer. Kids have the option to get out of a NLI if their coach leaves after the season, but for those who want to make their decision early, let them do it at a time that makes sense with the football calendar.
If you do this, NSD will regain a lot of luster and recruiting will balance out much better between the two dates. This would be good for the sport, as it will let coaches deal with the job carousel and the portal right after the season and then roll into closing out recruiting during the traditional NSD window.
