Holiday's best time in the 100m in High-school was 10.43... this kid is faster as a junior... he will go sub 10 sec after a few years of training at LSU. Also, is this the fastest 100m ever for a high school kid coming to LSU?
Thank you for sharing. I was wondering how this compared to Holiday, Kennison, Carter, Brazil, Cummings, etc at that age.
Love having these speedsters. Worst case bust floor scenario for dudes with that kind of speed is elite special teams players. That’s basically the floor.

Some of those may be harder to find, but here is Xavier Carter as a junior and a senior.
Junior year: 10.38 seconds in the 100 m, 20.69 seconds in the 200 m, and 45.88 seconds in the 400 meters
As a senior Carter ran 10.29 s the 100 m, 20.49 s in the 200 m, and 45.44 s in the 400 m.
Anthony Schwartz and Tyreek Hill have medals from youth world championships, and Hill’s bests from high school are 10.19/20.14 while Schwartz ran 10.15 and 20.47
No wind times for Watkins or Carter are listed. Schwartz and Hill are wind legal times.
For even broader context, Noah Lyles went 10.08 and 20.09 after high school graduation, and he may have the 200 world record by the time he retires.

only 2 sprinters in LSU history have ran sub 10.0, ever.
Is he going to run track too, with a higher focus on T&F? Probably the only way he does that.

Yeah - I just looked up Richard Thompson to compare it - If the reported 10.27 is accurate for Watkins, it is crazy. Richard Tompson's fastest time in high school before coming to LSU was 10.55.
Thompson is the fastest Tiger to ever live....
The question might be if Watkins will stick to football, or focus on T&F. He is just a bit short for top end sprinters... but dang.

As impressive as that time is for Watkins (and it is elite) keep in mind N. Harbor ran a 10.20 in HS at 6-5 230 lbs.

Is he a Holliday kind of speed? Like will he be a jet sweep king?

I'm loving the 200m time.
No kidding. Guy hits full speed and doesn't let up.
Welcome to Tiger Nation, Mr. Watkins.

I ran a 10.2 second 100 yard back in the day and I thought I was fast! This guy would have beat me by 10 yards!!!!

I ran the 100m back in the mid 80s and the 100y seemed ancient history even then. How old are you?

For a football player (he will probably do track no more than 2 years if he crushes it in football) that’s a lot of weight he’ll carry when getting in SEC football shape.
His 60m time mentioned as well is damn good too.

I think Trindon went 10.00 in the 100. Unsure if wind aided.
6.54 60m was elite. Reaction + acceleration for that event and it was noticeable on the field.
