Whit Weeks is a great tackler having made 17 tackles each in 2 of the last 5 games in 2024.
I love Whit, but he was completely awful against every QB with real speed. That's why Perk would have been perfect to spy.

LSU is losing 76% of the defenses total pressures going into next year and you want to pretend like Harold Perkins would make the unit worse. Gtfoh

Because they foolishly chose not to spy milroe with Perkins who would have been perfect for the role. Same thing with the a&m qb this year in the second half. He and weeks also gives you the ability to switch spies which makes your defense multiple.

Hopefully not. He either sucks or the LSU coaching staff is clueless as to how to use him. We’ve been better at times on defense without him.

More like he wants to be used and developed in a way that he is not capable of playing. If he was playing in the see ball, hit ball role he was in as a freshman he would be an elite player.

Ridiculous. Whit Weeks has almost as much speed as Perkins, has better football instincts/football saavy, and can actually tackle. Whit Weeks reminds me of a faster Ron Sancho. While Eric Hill got all the hype, Sancho seemed to know where the play was going almost before it was run. I can't believe that you or anyone else who has seen Perkins play thinks he could be a good spy. First, he wouldn't know where the guy was going quick enough and even if he caught up to him, he couldn't tackle him. Your post is a total failure in facts.

Making Perkins a spy on Milroe would have stopped all that bull he was doing. Did you people completely forget fans whining about why we didn't spy Milroe in 2023?

I never whined about him not spying Milroe in 2023 because I knew it would be a waste of time. What I "whined about" was House last season and Baker this season not rushing more defenders across the LOS to close off Milroe's running lanes. Everyone knew he was just going to tuck it and run so the pass wasn't even a threat. That is on House and Baker for running poor defenses against Milroe, Reed, and Sellars. Funny, how Milroe didn't run against anyone else to any extent except Georgia. No other team was running the "spy technique" against him.

I agree that LSU tried to use him in a possible future NFL position....Kelly even stated that publicly. The problem is he is a tweener...and he won't be able to find a position in pro football either. As far as "see ball, hit ball role", yeah after the Arkansas game in 2022 and a few others, opponents found out he wasn't strong enough to get through blockers. Once they assign a blocker to watch out for him, he is a non-factor as I've stated before. He is way overrated by many posters on this board. That is why LSU's defense actually improved after he got hurt and Whit Weeks played almost all the defensive snaps.

Go back and turn on the tape from the LSU/Bama game against Bryce Young. Then get back with me. He was the perfect spy on Young.

Uh, Bryce Young is not in the same class speed wise as Reed, Milroe, or Sellars. Earlier I said a spy could work against QBs that are not super fast. In fact I specifically mentioned that maybe LSU spied Jackson Arnold in the 2nd half of the OU game...couldn't see the whole field so I don't know if they changed to that or not in the 2nd half. Anyway, Bryce Young on his best day does not have elite speed. He is more elusive and shifty than speedy.

You can't be this dumb
Milroe can still deliver the ball deep
You can't just blitz him all the time, especially with a weak secondary.

And other teams spied milroe. You just do it in certain spots. I do agree people on here oversimplify it. They think you just put Perkins out there as a spy every down and all will be well.

The problem in the alabama game this yr was
1st- d tackles getting blown off the ball

2nd-linebackers like whit weeks not staying in their gap and overrunning the play

3rd-safeties like Gilbert not being able to make one on one tackles once milroe got past the 2nd level.

He can throw it deep but his accuracy is not good. In fact, he is a very inconsistent QB. There is a reason that he runs so much...he is not a very good passing QB. If you think LSU couldn't take a chance rushing more than 4 and come out fine, you haven't watched him enough. Neither Milroe nor Reed or Sellars have proven they are even above average throwing the ball. Oh, and BTW, when you rush more than 4, he wouldn't have time to throw a bunch of deep balls anyway. That is one reason, Nussmeier doesn't throw a lot of deep passes...he would be sacked before he got the pass off.

House did this by design.

Go back and watch what we did against all other mobile QBs. We sent DEs and/or LBs to crash the mesh point and then brought LBs or Safeties up to fill gaps if the QB pulled the ball. We missed a ton of tackles on Reed because of his speed. Against Bama, this strategy failed because the DL got blown up worse than any other game this season. That opened additional lanes for Milroe all night and our Safeties couldn’t handle their jobs even in ideal conditions. Nothing Baker did was going to work well with the DL getting handled like that.

The strategy of crashing the mesh point worked really well vs Pavia and Jackson Arnold. I would like to see Baler mix things up even more, but with better Safety play and LBs faster than Penn, we should be able to execute this better vs faster QBs going forward.
