Having a decent QB is the ultimate? Not playing for championships

dude, that's just stupid zero sum think, the point of having a good QB, is so you can win more games and play of the title. Is it necessary? Of course not, but when you have good QBs with a balance offense and a great D, you can win title.

Bama had a great D this year, one of the best ever maybe, but if we had a QB that could throw down the field, like JaMarcus Russell, we would beaten them in the BCS CG, hell, we might have beeaten them by enough of a mragin the first time to not have to play them the 2nd time.

What would you rather have? Our stable of RBs or a good QB?
At LSU, you shouldn't have to choose between the two. You should have your choice of a plethora of recruits.

Florida's teams used the spread to open the run, not pitch it all over. Auburn's success was Dyer and Newton running, not throwing it around. 05 Texas had V.Young, again a mobile QB that used his running ability just as much as his throwing.

The thing all 4 of those teams has in common is freaks at QB. Young, Tebow, and Newton are arguably the 3 best all-around players in CFB over the past decade. All 3 were good, not great passers and great running threats.

As soon as Vince Young, Tim Tebow, and Scam Newton sign with the Tigers, I'll be ready for the spread offense.

Until then, I'm good with "3 Yards and 13-0"

Wow, putting a S in front of Cam, that's brilliant, think of that one on your own?

I misread the guys post, he was talking about run and shoot type teams, broader point is teams with nonconvnetial offenses have been winning.

Good think its not an either or propostion and if you read my whole post, you'd note were I said I'd rather a prostyle offense. The Michigan, 3 yds and a cloud of dust offense is fine, when playing a bunch of teams with much less talent, but if you want the 13-0 to be 14-0 rather than 13-1, you're better off with a QB that can throw down the field, running up the middle is easy for a team with similar talent to stop, see 1/9/12
