No offense, but this is simplistic. Your success as a player is dramatically impacted by fitting into a scheme. When they recruit you, it's the coach, not some representative of the school, that meets with you, fosters the relationship, gets comfortable enough to give you the offer, etc. Aside from recruits who want to play for their favorite team just because, the #1 reason any of them commit is the coach.
You miss the point. The point isn't that coaches aren't important. It's that recruits have zero control over whether or not that coach is going to be around. In this case, the kid didn't even enroll before the coach was gone.
Kids need to make decisions beyond who the coach is. If they don't they set themselves up for exactly this scenario.

At some point you’ll grow up and realize that not everyone comes up the same way you do. That they aren’t always privileged to have two present, educated parents, or privileged to have the same general education you were afforded. Or privileged to grow up in a community that focuses on investing in their youth.

You don’t know me or anything about me.
Your entire post is extremely racist, presumptuous, and laced with stereotypes btw.
FYI, I’m black and came up with nothing. I worked my arse off to make a better life. I chose to take advantage of education offered to me through athletics and used both as a way out of poverty.
You made a lot of assumptions that are typical stereotypes and inherently racist, but ironically you don’t see that do you?
Tell me something Lester, do you think all black people lack two parents, don’t value education, and don’t invest in their youth?
Those are very telling beliefs. You’re quite the hypocrite and a-hole. Im pretty sure I would have plenty to say to your face and or anyone like you in person if you’re ever interested in meeting.
It's not uncommon these days for the liberal white guy to explain to the black person how racism works...all the while expressing racism himself.
This happens all the time now. Now, get in line and do what you are told.

quote:eh, as far as recruiting goes... that's the most important 'mesh point' there is.
The point isn't that coaches aren't important.
quote:very true. Worth noting coaches have zero control over where recruits go also, or what other coaches are saying about them or the program.

So, since recruits lack control over coaches security/employment BUT that coach is the most important person in the recruitment maybe it's the configuration that needs to change. Maybe the NCAA needs to modify the whole procedure. We've gone from 'dazzle & hookers' to 'business decisions'.
Who has control over the coaches? AD. Maybe the AD needs to directly involved with recruiting, on and off campus. Especially with parents/guardians. They can speak to who's going to be where. Yes, even they can lie but they have much less plausible deniability when they do.
And then we can go to the other end of the spectrum. With QA/QC people having by organic means short tenures and GA's limited to two years they might be a great source of information for the recruits. They have less vested interest in lying for the program. They are the equivalent to 'boots on the ground' information. Maybe the NCAA needs to allow non-face2face contact by them with recruits.

It is one of the unfair things about CFB. Coaches leave. Players who committed to us did so with Brady and Aranda on the staff. Kids need to sign with SCHOOL they want to attend. As for Clayton, he was butt hurt that he was not in our top 5 RB’s that we wanted . Evans, Bradford, and Gibbs were the three RB’s that we had ranked the highest, so I understand how a prideful Clayton is bitter about LSU. On that note , Tiger Bait.

If kids sign for a coach its the chance they take. It’s a small % that truly have job security you can plan on for a 4 yr window.

In case anyone hasn't noticed we all stereotype. Dear Rosenblatt I am sure you have never ever saw a redneck in a pickup truck, with a gun rack, a rebel flag and thought he's a great guy. Or did you think that guy is probably illiterate and hates blacks, Jews and Catholics and his mother married her brother. Sure and and Asian women are great drivers, and Latino men are not overly macho and Jewish men are great athletes and on and on.
I am Cajun and all I have to do is cross the Sabine into Texas to be sterotyped as a dumb backwoods coonass you can't speak English.
Thicken your skin buddy all races and genders stereotype to an extent.
