re: Arky's KJ Jefferson entering the Transfer Portal

If there's one thing about this coaching staff I have faith in, it's their ability to evaluate and develop QBs. If they think we need a portal QB, they'll go out and get the best one to help LSU win football games.

Both Burrow and Daniels took a second year to really break out. You need that time in the system and with your teammates. No thanks on the 1-year rental unless our cupboard is absolutely empty.

If we sign a 6th year senior that means Nuss isn’t cutting it so yes he would likely transfer. Nuss has way too much talent and clearly wants the gig, I can’t see Denbrock and Sloan not making him into a serviceable QB. Look what Sloan did for Jayden… went from cringing every time he threw the ball to being genuinely surprised when he threw an incompletion or missed a receiver.

Well no shite. But this is a message board where non-coaches discuss things. Our coaches haven't said they want him, so we can discuss whether we think they should. I think it's a huge red flag that Jefferson has regressed as a 5th year player. He doesn't read defenses well at all. It has been a recurring problem his entire career. He relies on his size and athleticism for everything. I just don't see how you develop a guy that needs a lot of work in one offseason. Guys like Burrow, Daniels, Penix, Nix, etc had two years with their programs to take their games to the next level. Jefferson has one year to play. He needs to be ready to crush it now.

This board really does crack me up, though. Went from people begging for Daniels to be benched for Nuss all offseason, and now the same people are clamoring to sign his replacement from the portal.

Unless BK promises KJ starting role, he isn't coming.

I'm not saying go find Nuss' replacement, but you have to understand that we are going to take a QB in the portal to have some experience behind Nuss.

It's walking a fine line to say we need a QB in the portal for depth, but he can't be too good or we lose Nuss.

You have to understand that if you keep signing portal guys to be your backup, you're never going to develop the players you recruit out of high school and will always be looking for experience behind the starter. Further, these QBs entering the portal are not doing so to go sit on the bench. They're transferring to start and want assurances they can. If we sign a guy like that, then we lose Nuss and are in the same exact position we were prior with depth. Nuss has been learning this system for 2 years now. I have more faith in him coming in and doing well than bringing some average to slightly above average guy from another school to be a one year mercenary. None of these guys entering the portal this far are stars. They're almost all guys who have been playing forever and still have red flags preventing them from being drafted.

Arkansas fans aren't even upset he's leaving. That should tell you something. He's been their starter the last 3 years
