Two years ago we started two true freshman (Campbell & Jones) at both OT positions. We thought our O-line was going to be awful. Now they are both projected 1st rounders. Let's give Bo a chance to coach the guys we have at DT. McKinley, Johnson, and/or Breaux all have the potential to be the next great interior defensive lineman for LSU. The biggest difference to me this year from last is coaching. We all wanted Bo. Now we have him. Lets see what he can do with our guys.

You are pissed at BK and “want to hold him accountable for not getting DL out the portal” well you were pissed about Williams and Barrow who both demanded too money, MILLIONS!!!!
Blidi got paid big by Auburn!
West who knows but I guarantee after those deals he isn’t taking chump change to go to Indiana, the place your boy Blidi took have his NIL for 2024 from their collective and bailed before playing a down in 2024, real stand up guy there. Really want that on our team…..
Now the D2 guys who knows they could turn out to be the next Fiske or Verse(probably not but we don’t know).

I don’t hate CBK at all. He just said we would compete for a championship in year 3 and we need DTs in order to do so.

An example would be a Man trying to find a wife. The man makes $100k a year which is plenty enough to give that woman a decent life. BUT if all she cares about is money then she's gonna find herself a guy making $200k or $500k and leave the $100k guy in the dust. Even if he marries him cuz he's the best she can do at the time, she will always be looking out for someone that can provide more than her current man. NOW if they both share the same values and goals in life and commit to each other based on more than money, the marriage has a better chance of lasting. This doesn't mean money doesn't matter at all. If he doesn't have a job at all, the values and goals won't be enough either. BK is trying to find that sweet spot of aligned goals and values and compensation.
Unfortunately for us, LSU has to play the NIL game this wat because we don't have the donor pool that other schools have. No we aren't dead broke but we won't be able to outbid the Texas's of the world. So our strategy has to be more nuanced than that.

How did he mismanage this? 3 DTs left in the draft and no others that were any good left. He has been trying to get some but as stated many times these guys want stupid money.

And he still might. A strong ball control offense like I think they will have with probably the best OL and OL coach in the SEC. A strong run game controlling the clock can hide a weakness on defense a lot of times. Last year we were quick strike and the D spent a lot of time in the field and we all know about House and his stupidity. Baker and Davis will have these guys coached up. And we have DT’s they just are not elite but they don’t have to be to be serviceable. He will get a couple extras before the season for depth I’m sure but saying he whiffed like you have several times is wrong. He tried to get Barrow, Williams and Blidi but they chose money. Probably the best payday any of them will ever see as I don’t see any of those 3 are much more than very late day 3 picks or UDFA’s

He let Wingo and Smith wait until the last minute to let the staff know they were leaving. We could have utilized the Winter transfer portal which had much better options. And before you say we didn’t have a defensive staff, we got other defensive players during this window.

Smith and Wingo were leaving no matter who was coaching. Smith knew his potential was going to get him drafted higher than he deserved and Wingo knew age was going to start to hurt him and he even said after the bowl game he was gone

Seems like some of yall are forgetting about Reliford coming in from A&M. The dude is an absolute stud and could very well see playing time before McKinley. Hoping this guy helps big time on the DL this year.

The portal misses get a lot of pub, but high school DT recruiting is the biggest root cause. Look at what we have brought in the past 3 or 4 seasons. Without researching, we have brought in very few guys from the high school ranks for too many years in a row. Can't miss multiple years like that unless you knock it out of the portal park each year. We should be bringing in 3 or 4 HS guys every year. This has to change, but hasn't yet. Kelly says that is his intent, but has mostly missed so far.

It won't be as dire, but we will go after top guys. It seems like a lot of teams need DL. Not as bad as LSU, but it's a big need. Louisiana has some dudes the next few years that we'll need to get committed.

How can anyone in here predict this? I'm not sure why these questions are being asked. Nobody here can tell you for sure what's going to happen. At best we can speculate.

Only problems with your hypothesis:
1. is the failing to get transfer DTs was a result of mediocre DTs wanting millions (Barrow and Williams). Hard to find fault when you agree that it is absurd to overpay for marginal talent.
2. As to Blidi, why overpay for someone who has Jacobian Guillory stats while playing more snaps than Guillory and while playing in the BIG10.
ETA: Question for you: Would you laugh at Auburn if they gave Guillory a $450k NIL deal to secure his services out of the portal?

3. West only being available for fall camp, should he actually graduate in August. There is no guaranty that West will be eligible for next year, until he graduates. There is an underlying academic eligibility problem there and not graduating will end his college career. Not worth the risk.
Therefore, the search goes on, patience grasshopper.

The problem with people who point to Smith and Wingo is that lsu needed dts even if they stayed.
So why didn't they grab a couple guys in the winter portal? They didn't even try. That was a miscalculation.
Better players were cheaper as a result of quantity
