Seeing how these schollys are provided with state money, might this not fall under nepotism anyway ?

Ppl are worried because Phillips supposedly was face timing OU folks while on his visit. May mean nothing but I'm worried he sticks with OU. Also seems that he is worried about the perception if he backs of his word/commitment with OU.

Doesn't seem like everyone is as confident with Phillips as before.

On OU's site (soonerscoop), posters are on full meltdown mode. Our recruiting expert was confident in the morning, but just recently had an update saying he's hearing that the pendulum might be swinging more towards LSU at the moment. Didn't really say why, though. He's OU's best recruiting "expert" - definitely not the sunshine pumping type. Just crazy all the way around. 17-18 kids, man. Big decision for the young man (seems like a really bright, good kid) and it's his life. Hope he's successful regardless of where he ends up.

Thanks for the update ... a few weeks away from signing day, anything can happen.

What site? 247 has an insider that has always been on the money and he tried to explain Phillips over the last couple of days. The melt was real, OU fans getting nasty and couldn't fathom why he would want to come here. Guess they don't realize that LSU has developed linebackers left and right. Deion Jones (possible Defensive rookie of the year), Kwon Alexander, future with Kendall Beckwith and Duke Riley, even go back to Minter, Kelvin Shepard and Perry Riley who are all in or going to be in the league.
My whole family went to OU and everyone in my family I talk to thinks LSU is the best spot for him to get to the league.
Who from OU is in the league at linebacker?

Yeah, I follow recruiting but I don't watch any of the ceremonies (for the good or the bad). I refuse to let 17-18 yr old kids make or break my day.

The scholarships are not provided with state money. The LSU athletic department doesn't get a penny of state money.

To me this is not the question. Do you want to play in the SEC or the Big12. OU is a great program but at LSU he will play against some of the best competition around just in the west division. The Big12 will wind up a bunch of 54-51 games and not known for any level of defense.

Daniel Seahorn Texas's 247 analyst just put a crystal ball in for Phillips to LSU!!

I guess my point is that they follow recruiting and think OU isn't the right fit because there isn't any defense played in the Big 12. Also read that his dad and others close to him feel that LSU will develop and showcase him for the NFL. I don't think it's a hard choice

Can you be more specific on the FaceTime with OU people?
That would worry me. I think it's 50/50 at this point
The LSU shine will wear off once he gets back to Tennessee. Let's just hope it stays with him. I know stoops won't let him go easy

The only time I saw Phillips facetime with OU and others was on snap chat when his snap chat story consisted of a selfie of him inside tiger stadium captioned home.

Just curious but why was Phillips never considering LSU before now?
Had he always had an LSU offer and just didn't show much interest?
Why the sudden change in interest in LSU? Was it Gay's desire to have him play LB together at LSU?
Was it the dominance of LSU's defense under Aranda that sparked the interest?
Was the pursuit of Moses and Allen causing the coaches to spend less time on Phillips and other high profile LB's?
I'm glad we have these guys considering LSU and from the looks of their film, I'm not sure they shouldn't of been considered and pressed hard for before our in state guys. Gay is extremely athletic. Seems like the prototypical LSU linebacker.
