Hey homie we went to school together C/O 97 here. As stated before, LSU passed over plenty of good players from this school in the late 90's and early 00's when they were competing for state championships every year. And this was before they had 16 state championship games. There were only 5 classes for the whole state. They wound up going to Tulane, and Ole miss, and smaller schools. One guy I went to school with is sporting a Superbowl ring. And not from the bench either he was the starting fullback for Jamal Lewis's 2000 yard season with the Ravens. LSU didn't even sniff around him. For the longest time this school was overlooked by LSU. This doesn't mean the town is all Bama. The majority of fans there root for LSU. Hard to change a perceptions of being forgotten about for years, but looks like LSU is doing everything they can to change that.

Amite native here and I agree with all of this. Fact is only 1 Amite kid in my life time has ever gone to Bama, but the fact that that one kid caught a national championship winning pass as time expired didn’t help LSU out. For a lot of this community it’s more about supporting their own then supporting some team. Sure there are a lot of bandwagon Alabama fans in Amite just like there are all over Louisiana but that doesn’t tell the whole story. It’s weird because most Amite people I talk to seem to think the Amite boys will go to LSU but around here I don’t get that vibe at all. Time will tell.

Its just not the Amite Alabama connection, its about not losing your top guys in the state. That area of amite, kentwood, i believe and there is another town has had one or two elite players go somewhere else. Just hard to take players that are nationally recruits leaving from that area

Not to hijack your thread but Ascension Parish has a lot of Bama people as well. Especially the Dutchtown area. I see Bama gear all the time. It may be because of Eddie Lacy and Landon Collins.

Some really good players from the Amite teams were not offered by LSU and that rubbed the younger generation the wrong way. Now they seem to have an axe to grind with LSU.

Just curious: who were these real good players not offered by LSU during that period? Wheree did they sign? Did any of them sign with BAMA?

This complaint is not unique to Amite or any other samll town. Every town with star players thinks LSU should sign their guys. Occasionally LSU ( as did most schools) misses a diamaond in the rough like Jaylon Ferguson, but for the most part the coaches know which players are SEC type athletes and pursue them Just because a back ran for 1700 yards in 3A does not mean he will likley be a big contributor at the highest levels of college football.

Damien Huren- Miss State
Kendrick Perry- Ole Miss
Antonio Baker- La Tech
James Burns- Grambling (grade risk but could really play)
Jerrell Carter- UL-LAFAYETTE
Michael Carr-Clemson
Alan Ricard- UL Monroe (won a SB with ravens)

I think all of those guys could have played at LSU which would have helped relations in that area. Only two I remember LSU signing were Carlton Buckles and Lester Ricard. Carlton’s younger brother Dorset walked on here in early 2000’s. There have been a bunch more players there that were SEC caliber, but had no grades.

I can assure you that 99.9% of Ascension Parish is LSU all LSU.

I literally have zero doubt that the barber is being compensated. Is it impossible to report this in any way? How has it gone on this long? Is Saban just that untouchable?

There is proof of LSU offering him compensation, don't go down this road.

Well, that's good to hear. It might not help with Sopsher, and he'll still have a relationship with his buddy Petito, but it might pay dividends down the road to have this guy not totally against LSU.

I can vouch that most of what he said in this thread is true, but...

Come on, B!

Why didn't you play HS baseball then? We could have used some help on that team, that's for sure!

Not so fast here. Pay attention to how many Bama stickers you see on trucks or how much Bama gear people wear.
